This spring I attained my British canoe union 4 star award, this is a leadership award allowing the holder of this award to be able to lead other competent paddlers on moving water. I have been trying to attain this award for 5 years but the medical staff read "lead a group" on physically demanding water. and that stopped the permission to take the assessment. the change came when before it in the syllabus read peer group now reads competent .
I wonder because the medical staff do not understand the sport I am actively participating in and see what they see on TV as a just deem canoeing high risk sport . I do though have a lot of extra precautions to do before I set off on a paddle, such a blood test before and after and carrying extra glucose and also have other in the group who can take over if I feel ill.
