Hi folks, have had a problem with logging in recently so haven't been able to answer any threads, however I do have a question. I was on 3grams of metformin up until Friday last week but was experiencing dreadful diarrhoea so GP has now put me on SR metformin 2grams which is the highest dosage. Having read up some information I note that the literature does state that if you are on more than 2grams of metformin then SR isn't for you, why did my GP put me on this as I'm now worried that my blood sugars which of late have been very well behaved are now going to go haywire! I had a BS of4 before bed last night and a 6.5 this am!

I cant answer your question about Metformin as I only take 1x500mg of SR a day.
But your BS sounds fine to me.

Hi Patricia, yes I was very happy with those however last night they were 7.8 and this morning 7.6, which in the grand scheme of things aren't too bad but never the less now showing an increase!

Hi. If you Google the web you will find that as with most medicins the more you take the less the effect; it's not a linear curve. Metformin only ever has a small effect on blood sugar so the 2 gms should be fine. Diet remains key for all of us and if you are nearer to T1 than T2 e.g. slim, then there are other tablets that can help with blood sugar.

Many thanks for the reply, I have reduced my carb intake to around 100g daily and losing weight nicely too. Have at least another 4st to go but baby steps, just a little delusioned as got my sugars down very nicely, however still within the NICE guidelines for T2
