stable but high bg readings

Hi all,

Extremely new at this, I've only been testing for a couple of days. From reading around on here it seems like time, trial and error is the biggest key to figuring out what's going to work for me.

One question, though. My fasting reading is coming out around the 11/12 mark at the moment (not great, but give it time). 2 hours after breakfast, it's the same. Does this mean that breakfast was good, because it didn't change my levels, or bad because they're still high?

Stable is good. It is now thought that a lot of "spikes" are as harmful as consistently high.

However, It sounds from your attitude, that you will reach the gold standard of Stable + low. In a reasonable time

Ah........now there is a question.....???

You already know that your fasting levels are not good, give it some time. As a Type 2 you need to work at getting them down to between 4 - 7 mmol/l. That might involve some analysis of what and when you ate the night before and what your pre bedtime levels are. Gives you a 'benchmark' to work from.

As for is it high or is it low........it might seem good that they are not any higher after your meal, however, what did you eat ? It may be that the food was good for you and it didn't raise your Bg levels any higher than they already were. It could also be that the food was a slow acting carb and you were actually on the way up ! Therefore it wouldn't show the rise at 2 hrs.

Again, analysis and record keeping is paramount here. Sometimes you may have to test at 3 or even 4 hrs after a particular type of meal. That's why we here advocate test, test, test so you know exactly what is going on. You don't have to do it forever, just long enough to know what different foods will do to your Bg levels.

Stick at it and it does get easier and also better. :D
