As you know I have been doing low carb seriously for 2 to three weeks it is primarily to lose weight and lower BG readings BG is good but although I find keeping carbs down low I am eating less than 1000 calories but no weight coming off.Am I too Hasty would appreciate your input.

How much weight do you have to lose? And how many carbs per day are you having?
Personally I didn't even look at calories for the first year of eating this way (and still only monitor them out of interest) although to be completely honest my weight loss has stopped at the moment. It has however been stable for the past 9 months.
After 3 weeks I'd be very, very happy with lower BG numbers. To get some weight loss you really need to be lowering your insulin responses so I'd also be looking at eating frequency and maybe looking to reduce my eating window. I found that intermittent fasting (no breakfast) along with an ultra low carb diet (20g per day or lower) helped with both weight loss and BG control.

In my opinion, lowering blood glucose is a priority. Any weight loss is a very nice bonus. Others may not agree.
You are sticking to 1000 calories a day, but what is the carb/fat/protein balance in these calories? How many carbs are you eating, and what are your blood sugar readings like - and I mean all of them, before and after meals?
Carbs matter because they trigger big insulin responses, and too much circulating insulin will hinder weight loss.

Hi @Motherhen2014
When I first started LCHF, I weighed every single component of my meals and kept a spreadsheet of my consumption of macronutrients at each meal. That taught me the effects of various foods on my metabolism.
About a year ago, I stopped doing that entirely and now just eat what I know, without counting. As a result, my fasting blood sugar is always in the 4-5 mmol/l range.
I do still have a problem with weight, as I put on weight really easily, especially on holiday and with family meals etc. I have now found a way that works for me.
  1. Only eat during a 08:00 to 20:00 window
  2. Never eat snacks
  3. Eat the minimum possible carbs
  4. Don't add additional fat like butter just for its own sake
I have lost over a stone since Xmas and I am now back to my target weight.

Beat you Daf...

You have set yourself a calorie target but have you set a carb target?

Hi Motherhen
First and this is so important I don't understand how people overlook it your not putting on any weight.
That's huge give yourself credit for that.:joyful:

Second yes its only been a couple of weeks.
Here's how I look at it, it took 40 odd years to get to be this size I'm not going to reverse that in a couple of weeks. I'm a couple of months down the road from where you are and now I have to try and convince myself I like baggy clothes or else there would be nothing left in my wardrobe.

So it works just give it time. ;)
:bag:

Thank you all for your replies I do keep a food diary everyday I will put some figures on here. But I do find it difficult to keep carbs down to a minimum. But as you said I have not put on weight. It's just staying steady I want to get my body to use stored fat so I lose this weight I am carrying, I have a mother's apron and rolls of fat under my arms and on my back and heavy legs.

I am trying to load DUCK Forum onto my desk computer but it is not listed in my devices anyone know how I can download new device Sorry this is not a message about low carb.

I think you have answered your own question.
Keeping carbohydrates down to a minimum is what persuades your body to run on fat.
If you just eat lowish carbohydrate then your body may refuse to covert to fat burning, and instead do all it can to preserve the fat.

As always, it is better to have good BG readings than to lose a bit of weight. Weight loss will come with time.

Thank you I now have forum on my laptop. What I don't understand is if I am eating less than 1000 calories for instance today I ate 853 calories I do that by carbs and calorie counter book. Agreed so did have 103 carbs that was because I have a museli and baggett of a Tuesday morning without those two items my carbs would have been 81 less so it could have been 22 carbs am I right.Normally I would have a nut bar that is 214 calories and 5.4 carbs one for breakfast and one for tea with a hot meal inbetween which does not have potatoes but brussels and cabbage or beans. Thank goodness for the edit button

So I will have to do some real planning then. Thanks everyone for help.xx

How much muesli and how big a baguette? You calculated 22g carbs for them. In the Carbs & Cals book, muesli is 20g carbs per 30g of muesli. A very small slice of a baguette is 17g carbs for a 30g slice. Are you calculating properly?
