Just had this at Starbucks- nice treat for a hot day - I wouldn’t normally have the syrup but fancied a treat. Just like a sugar laden Frappuccino but no carbs (I know some have problems with sugar free stuff but I’m ok with them - don’t affect my BG)IMG_1275.jpeg

Iced coffee is one of the greatest things in life. My issue is Starbucks' insipid coffee, though I have been known to partake in an emergency...
Extra shot? I find Costa bitter sometimes as they seem to burn it, but if they get it right it’s a good coffee. I do like a Nero’s

I would call it mellow rather than bland but each to our own I suppose, it wasn’t really a good strong black coffee I was looking for today (my usual drink of choice) I wanted a nice creamy chilled drink.

Guess it depends on personal taste.
I steer clear of the big companies if I want a real coffee, and seek out the independent places. They are generally staffed by people who know their beans and blends, and will ask what my tastes are.

Sometimes, in fact usually, I use instant coffees at home. I don’t have the patience to grind beans and percolate the grounds. I am also a bit lazy in that respect.

Today has been particularly hot, and I haven’t felt like eating much. Iced coffee has sustained me. I do sometimes go out to buy one, but today just chucked a couple of teaspoons Alta Rica in a jug , dissolved in hot, not quite boiling water, added handful of ice cubes, and some whisked coconut milk. I repeated that twice, adding coconut cream to one. No syrups. No sweeteners. Like my coffee flavour to be most prominent.

Thinking of trying this tomorrow,

but not sure about the sweetness of the erythritol . Though it seems to need that for the thickening.? Will definitely leave out the vanilla. That is just for ice cream. Not coffee or beer. Coffee should taste of coffee. Beer should taste of beer. But that is just may personal taste.

I don't think the erythritol will do anything for the whipping/thickening. Just adds sweetness. The hard work is done by the blender.
Do report back though as I love iced coffee

I agree @MrsA2, not made it myself but hubby made it once without the sweetener when it first became a social media trend 3 or 4 years ago, it’s very very intense and I don’t have a sweet tooth but it does need the sweetener to balance & actually enhance & round off the coffee flavour. Don’t give up on the whisking @Pipp - it takes an age & you begin to think it’s not working but it will! It’s not that stable especially made with sweetener, I kept some in the fridge afterwards for next day - looked fine when I went to bed after it had been there about 3hrs but was a murky puddle in the morning :(

Will do.
Though this morning I had to go out and as I was passing a Starbucks, I thought I would try the recommendation by that famous influencer @lovinglife .
Tried the exact, same drink. Very refreshing, to my surprise. It wasn’t strong on coffee flavour, but if I wanted a strong coffee, I would have gone to my usual places. I could be a convert to this Starbucks concoction, especially on a hot day, as it had no impact on my BG levels. Glad I chose the recommended by our influencer caramel sugar free syrup, not vanilla, though. ;)
Will save the dalgona for another day. Soon. That whisking sounds like hard work on a hot day. :hilarious:

As promised, particularly for @MrsA2, @lovinglife, but anyone else interested, too…
I never feel like eating much during hot weather, so whipped up one of these.

Stuck to the recipe, which is quite an achievement for me as I often experiment. Used Nescafe espresso power. Left out the vanilla, which was optional. My appraisal?
It was a good meal substitute. (Lunch and evening meal not necessary). Blood glucose levels stable at 4.6 -5.2 rest of day.

I don’t usually like sweet tastes, or the after taste of sweeteners, so would maybe reduce amount of erythritol, in future, (which could affect the thickening of the coffee?) The sweetness, did , however compliment the blandness of the almond milk, and the bitterness of the coffee, which also gave a caffeine hit that made me wake up, a bit, as the hot weather had exhausted me.

Would make it again.

This post came at a great time….i got some beef protein powder, vanilla, from Costco the other day. I was thrilled to see beef protein powder! Today I decided to try some protein rich iced coffee and it was yummy! I wou”d use less powder next time, it was sweet (not sugar, fake sugar). I used whipping cream also. Will be doing that again….

Looks delicious @Pipp, I’m also very tempted to give it a go, (now wondering if this would make a nice addition to my weekend espresso martini?:writer::hilarious:)

Here's mine, it's very simple.

Two shots (minimum) coffee (mine is made in a Bialetti moka pot)
Double cream, good slug
Stevia as needed
Full fat milk, ice cold.

Combine and drink. I don't like putting ice cubes anywhere near this as it makes it thin as they melt. I used to use very cold water rather than milk, but I can budget for that, and it tastes miles better.

I don’t have milk in mine, just double or whipping cream & just enough ice so when it’s crushed it looks like a slush puppy, the blending thickens the cream as well as crushing the ice

I should have said that some disreputable lowlifes have been known to add a slug of bourbon to their frappacino. Thankfully this option is not available at Starbucks, or civilization might be threatened.

And recent scientific studies (n=1) have established that brandy works just as well as bourbon. It doesn't even have to be good brandy.

I seem to remember a 'breakfast' consisting of something brewed in your moka pot with an added slug of something to try to chase a horrible cold with a fever back where it came from.
Didn't work, but it definitely was a good start of the day!

Maybe that could be a new USP for them - I’d go for that, but I have been known to be disreputable in my time

Jameson's, that was.
