Frappicino's have anything from 29 to 88 carbs depending on the flavour and size of the cup ! :shock: :shock:

Far better off having plain filter coffee.

That's why they use chemical names for sugars. So the majority of people won't realise what they're eating

Most ice blended drinks are made with a mix out of a carton and the staff don't know what's in it. Happily Costa now do proper iced latte. That's just a normal latte with ice in it, so no sugar or syrup unless you ask for it, you only need to count the carbs for the milk. Not sure why it's taken so long for someone to do a straightforward proper iced coffee, but I'm glad they do now!

i couldnt work out why i was hitting bgs of 7- 2 hours after eating a pear and a latte form mc donalds. i asked for the nutrition information of all mcdonald products at the counter and was given the information no problems. its under the paper they put on your tray before serving. anyway no wonder a simple latte was 14g of carb plus the 12 from the pear. only decision is now do i have the coffee or the pear :lol: also the only thing i worked out i could eat was the grilled chicken salad and if anyones intrested the highest carb product on the menu was a vanilla milkshake that came in at 94g of carb. when i told my mrs what she had just eaten big mac french fries and milkshake was nearly my carb intake for 2 days we came to this conclusion. lucky cow :lol:

Isn't it simpler just to avoid junk food altogether?

Surely you don't need to read the nutritional pamphlet to know that what you get from McD's, KFC, Burger King, etc is just CR*P? :?

absoultely right ardbeg my children and mrs dont have to miss out do they.our main problem as a family is when we go out is eating for myself. sometimes i would like a change rather than making a cooler bag up just to go out shopping. we do use harvester a lot when we are out because of the salad bar. i havent touched junk food since diagnoses, i was just pointing out that something as innocent as a coffee still has carbs

Hehe indeed I have a lucky cow (looks swiftly over shoulder :lol: )that also can consume said items. I used to walk 5 miles to the McDonalds have a Tea and watch my wife and kids consume all kinds of goodies before I was diagnosed diabetic. BUT I used to love KFC had it at about 1-2 times a month (usually Friday lunchtime work treat), haven't had one since about June last year !

I know what you mean Ardbeg but peeps are allowed treats now and again and tbh for the last year I have found most of the biggest junk on our supermarket shelves often in the form of 'Healthy' food
One thing that particularly bugs me is that I wasn't observant enough to see how much sugar was on the 'carvery best range' of chicken,turkey and peppered beef let alone the healthy wholemeal I was putting it on.

A KFC for me is probably better than that best of the range & wholemeal ... sad but true. In real terms neither are good but the healthy option many percieve is not the one that produces the lower blood sugar result. I think a lot of us might have seen that with a simple baked potatoe(possibly not) ... it just depends on what you can metabolise.

In general I know what you mean but now and again its not too bad especially if your numbers are not too bad ...

Its the pear that's the culprit in all of this :wink:

nah had the same pear today ditched the latte voila 6.2 after 1 hour 5.3 after 2. the same result would be the same if i had the latte and ditched the pear. simple maths half the carb intake and you well get lower bg readings

Pre diagnosis I was particularly partial to a KFC myself. However, when I was indulging myself to a Colonel Meal with 3 chicken pieces, even the mental image of a grossly obese Elvis dying on the toilet after gorging himself with Southern Fried Chicken for years wasn't enough of a painful image to make me stop eating it.

Being diagnosed as T2 sure did the trick though. :shock:

Perhaps the letters within the word "colonel" should have given me a clue. :wink:

A KFC Chicken Breast and a half portion of regular fries is about 30g carbs. So unless you are ultra low carbing that isn't bad. Hardly any effect on BG levels either, I do take Byetta though.

As my main meals are both around that level, sometimes a bit less then for me it is a treat once in a while. I wouldn't eat the stuff every day though.......now that would be unhealthy !

A little of what you fancy....does you good, now't much wrong with Chicken and a few fries, all down to portion sizes really.

That's just it Sid........the salt/sodium content is as follows:
Chicken Breast.....0.1g
Regular Fries.......1.3g

Not much really compared to many other convenience foods. Sourced from the KFC Nutritional info, now that does seem a bit of a misnomer. :lol:

But a latte isn't 'an innocent coffee'. Latte is Italian for milk. So you get one or two espressos in a large cup of milk. Obviously you have to count the carbs in the milk, about 5g per 100ml. If you want anything approaching a normal coffee, ask for filter coffee or americano. That way you get to put your own milk in.
And don't bother with the sugar free hazelnut syrup in starbucks, it's rank! Although if you do try it and hate it, write and complain. They'll send you vouchers for 3 free drinks
