This morning I started taking the medication for the first time after getting the tablet dispenser sorted out. It was a metaformin tablet and I have to take a simvastatin with my evening meal. At the moment, I don`t feel much different. I will see how I get on over the next few days. Kenny

Good luck kenny,I'm new to this and type 2 and I'm struggling like you'd never know as I have an eating disorder but hey ho, these wonderful people on this forum are right there helping me.

One piece of advice. If you find your sleep is disturbed (due to the simvastatin), take it in the mornings. This happened to my husband during the period he was on statins. The disturbed sleep came on gradually as the statin accumulated in his body. It was his GP who advised him to take it in the morning.

3rd full day on the medication. Don`t really notice any side effects or any other kind of effect, but it is early doors. I don`t really suffer from disturbed sleep, I tend to put my bedroom TV on and go to sleep whenever. Still trying to learn about using the blood glucose meter. Using the actual meter is not a problem for me, as I am quite comfortable using technology. Learning about using the test strips and the lancing device will take a bit longer :-( Kenny

I am finding the same medication problematic after one month.
After about 2/3 weeks the statin made me forgetful and unable to learn the new song I wanted to sing at the folk club last Sunday - I ended up not going anyway. I stopped taking it and slowly was able to pick up the song - my husband remarked that I had been playing it over and over again. He also commented that I could not find the right words when speaking - I still get things wrong - I referred to a cookery pattern not a recipe just now. I also could not remember getting various enquiries - I still don't. My tinnitus increased to such a level that I could not use the phone, so I am much relieved to find all that reversing after a week or so not taking them. High LDL is a symptom of high insulin levels, which is common in type 2s so I hope that just keeping to a low carb diet will sort that out.
The Metformin just gives me an upset stomach, so if I take one I have to stay at home and close to the bathroom.
After a few experiments with various foods I have found that the things which I ate when losing weight are exactly those which don't raise by blood glucose, so I am going to stick to Atkins and hope that sorts out the diabetes.
