I have been type 2 diet controlled for about 7 years and in the past year have had Hab1c readings 6.6, 7.3, 6.5, 6.6, 6.9 and 7.2
every time I have visited the Dr (private as we were not covered under the Spanish health system) he said everything was ok and to keep on doing what I was. I am diet controlled, the only medication I take is an asprin once a day.
My last reading showed, yet again, a high liver count, no I do not drink, maybe 1 glass of red wine in the past 3 months. I was sent for another liver scan, this time it showed clear liver/pancreas but that my kidneys had started to change (fatty deposits I think it was) so I was sent to a kidney specialist who has ordered more blood tests and urine test (first one i have had since being pregnant 30 years ago) I go back next week with my results and she will then tell me what medication I need to take. She was surprised I had never been put onto medication before as I have a bad family history of type 2, my father died at 69 with gangrene in both feet, he had been a smoker since he was about 14 years old and continued to smoke heavily after being diagnosed as diabetic and my brother died at 62 years with complete renal failure, totally blind and had just had a leg amputated. But I count myself lucky, I knew I was IGT for about 8 years so I was aware that I could be ´going over´ to the other side :D
We have been accepted into the Spanish health system (the rules changed recently) I went to see the Dr at the medical center and she said to carry on as I was, no medication needed. I told her I was going to see the kidney specialist as a private patient, I will go back to the local GP and tell them I am now on medication.
The reason I get a high liver count is not known, the Dr in the UK had thought I was possibly an alcoholic  He came to the conclusion that my liver did not like being starved. He said had my count been that high all the time I would have had very yellow skin and eyes. I have had a blood test for hepatitis and all of the types I was clear, phew!
It will be interesting with the next blood test results. Has anyone here had odd liver count readings for no reason? :?:

My Liver count (Bilirubin) is usually elevated somewhere around 30 or 40.

I am not an alcoholic and I have had liver and kidney scans without anything being found.
The doctor says it has to be regarded as "normal" in my case and said I might be "Gilbert's syndrome".

He has also said the raised levels are not going to cause any problems for me as my other liver tests were normal (I can't remember now but ALT AST GTT and so on).

I saw the specialist last night and she said my results were good and I did not need to go onto diabetic medication. My urine test showed ok except one bit, I can´t remember what it was, but she said I had no problems. Due to my family history of diabetes she said I need to take a tablet to protect my kidneys, so I am now on a low dose blood pressure pill, although I have good blood pressure. I asked her if I needed to take cholesterol pills and she looked surprised I had even asked, she said no my cholesterol is good. Just walk she said, better than any pills. We do try to walk, even if it is parking the car across the other side of the town and walking to the shops.
My weight is coming off slowly and staying off, I am down from a size 14 going on 16 to a size 12, I would like to lose another 6lb and I will be happy.
We came out from the specialist last night and there was a coffee/cake shop next door, we went in, and they had sugar free cakes, it was a lemon sponge with a little icing- so I had one without feeling too naughty  It was good. It is nice to see a sugar free cake amongst all the other cakes
I asked the doctor about the elevated liver reading, here it is listed as GP-ALT-ALAT it had been as high as 138, it should be in the range of 5-40 so it really was high a year ago! since that result a year ago last September I have had: 33, 44, 28, 28, 42, 97 and 67 :? She said it could be my diabetes causing it, but the Hep blood tests I had all came back negative (phew) I spoke to a lady at the British Liver Trust, she said that muscle damage can cause a high liver reading, I had had a slipped disc, she said it could be that.
So for now I am to just take the blood pressure pill, an asprin and the isoflavones pill for the menopause, thank goodness I don´t have to stop that pill, that really would be bad
I have been getting his morning readings the past month, 8-9 but I have been suffering with hotspells a lot at night, not as bad as before the isoflavone pills though.
I don´t like the menopause :x
