Starting to think about the Summer

I tend to, at this time of the year, if only to dispel the gloom and murk of late Feb/early March.

We are going to the Isles of Scilly for a week, in late July: we enjoyed it so much last year that we're going to do it again. We're also thinking about festivals - we leave the big ones to our kids but we're planning to go to the Wickham Festival (Chris Lowe will be familiar with this) and the Larmer Tree, which is always a really nice, laid back event. We're also thinking about going to Boomtown because (a) it's just down the road from us and (b) someone we know is playing there, but we can't quite make up our minds at the moment as the line-up is generally a bit "Yoof" for us. Also it's possible that one or both of our kids will want to go, in which case they will not wish to light upon their parents whilst in the course of doing all the illegal, immoral and fattening things that you do at festivals when you're in your teens :) Otherwise we're not sure about other festivals, but if Mrs hay-char's Uke Group are invited to play locally (they did the Larmer Tree, Alresford and Meon Fest last summer) we will be there as well.

In other news, we're going to three (yes, three!) weddings this year, after years of not having gone to any at all: it's like buses - you wait for ages and then three come along all at once :). Two are for the kids of friends of ours: one is my God-daughter and the other is a kind of honorary Godson: he's the one whose band will be playing at Boomtown, and the plan for their wedding is to hold it over several days, out in the countryside, as a kind of festival like event, which should be great. Conversely, my God-daughter's wedding will be very conventional and probably quite posh. The third wedding is my brother who, in his mid-fifties, is getting married for the first time. It'll be quite a modest do as his fiancée is on (I think) Husband Number 3  She is a Russian Estonian, though she's lived in England for years, and thinks Vladimir Putin is the bee's knees but otherwise she seems really nice and our kids like her, which is always a good sign.

So - it's all looking quite busy, although I also fancy a cheap last minute week in the sun somewhere - maybe the Greek Islands or Croatia. Unfortunately, because Mrs h-c works in a school, we have to cram all of this into late July, August and the first few days of September, so something may have to give.

Oh - and my father is 90 in early August: it doesn't seem possible.

What plans do the rest of you have?

To return to Canada and my beloved. I spend 6 months here UK and 6 months there except I missed last year because of personal reasons. I need some sun too.
