And he was the one to believe...he said that they wouldn't extend my life by even one day
I was advised by my consultant in 2012 that statins were absolutely vital if I wanted to avoid heart attacks and strokes. Basically - if I didn't take them I would considerably shorten my life expectancy which really scared me as I had just been diagnosed with T2D.
26 days later I was in so much pain I could hardly crawl up the stairs. My medical notes state that I have a sensitivity to simvastatin causing myalgia. As soon as I stopped the statin the severe pain started to lessen but I was left with fairly severe muscle weakness. The consultant said this would more than likely take three years to recover from but as soon as I had recovered fully I would be put on a different statin. It has actually taken 5 years to recover from.
When I did a yellow card online on the government website it actually stated that people on the trials were pre-screened and anyone suffering a severe reaction were excluded from the proper trial. I did wonder how this could be an acceptable practice.
Of course, I will definitely not take statins ever again and when I mentioned to another Consultant that I was worried that not taking statins would shorten my life - he said that they wouldn't extend my life by even one day.
Yes - I absolutely agree. If only I had seen him first. And he was the one to believe...
You could well be right. I am pretty sure that I have read of some studies that show there is a possible link.ooked into them
Like yourself I was told I needed to take statins when I was DX 'd probably about 12 years ago ... I took simvastatin for a few years and put down any problems to 'getting older'. When someone inadvertently mentioned that they had similar symptoms which he put down to statins. When i looked into them everything then made sense all the pains and weakness and other symptoms made sense. After stopping the statins the pain etc diminished over the next 6 months and my cholesterol was stable so I thought problem solved, untill I had an eye problem so the doctor then put me back on a higher dose saying I was in danger of more episodes, strokes, heart attacks etc . within 2 weeks I was virtually crippled again . I tried every type of statin over the following months but all had effects so I refused to take them. I have not taken them now for probably 5 years but always had some aches and pains which have now been put down to poly myalgia. I wonder if there was a connection...
