Statins a blanket policy

I had a kidney transplant 10 months ago, and I am doing reasonably well since then. However, I have been on Rosuvastatin for years, and lately my sugar levels seem elevated. Should I discontinue my statins? I am Type-2 diabetic., no history of cardio-vascular diseases. Could someone comment/advice? Thank you in advance. Raj

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

We can’t give medical advice or instruction on changing med dosage or omitting.
You would need to speak with your HCPs. There are many things that could cause elevated BGs.

When did you last have a diabetes check up?

I'm still holding off taking the statins I was prescribed at the same time as metformin (a month ago) as I don't want to complicate things - especially given one of the more common listed side effects was potentially raising blood sugar. I'm not completely ruling out taking them - but want to get the diabetes under control first.

Newly diagnosed T2. My doctor said that whilst my cholesterol wasn't high, she recommended statins because of the T2. I'm working on diet at the mo and hope I've made some progress. I'm only a bit overweight so not obese. Not happy about the statins tho. I'm a much happier person not taking anything apart from D3.

Just a quick reply, we are all different and have to weigh up pros and cons. My aunt died of heart attack, and my mum had a triple heart bypass so I was recommended to take statins, I resisted for a long time but getting older now and my sdn recommended I take a low dose, so 10mg keeps my cholesterol at about 3.4. It’s a choice, I don’t know if it’s the right one but at the moment that’s what I’m doing

I'm type 1 and have been on statins for years, they've never messed with my glucose levels. Both my parents had heart conditions and my mum sadly passed away from a stroke, so I'm taking them to hopefully help protect me, I take Atorvastatin.
