Statins recommended

Agree with the others. My doctor also offered statins, but I have declined because I've seen little evidence of their effectiveness and the side effects (blood sugar rises, memory loss) seem too much of a risk. You need to make your own decision however - just do some reading around the issue. I find Dr Zoe Harcombe's work interesting.

The bottom line is that it is up to you and no one else. Do the research and make an informed decision. The doctor is not all knowing.

The thing I find most annoying is that the damage doesn't go away when you stop taking them - I can't do Sudoku puzzles any more.
I used to like them. There are books of puzzles all around the house, and an online site too, so I used to spend time doing them - obviously.
There might be other permanent effects - but I can't work out what they are because my memory is so bad.

My leg has never gone back to normal since my muscle problems with them - I have to lift my right for onto my knee by hand :-(

Ultimately it is your decision but read up on them first. I was prescribed them because 'all diabetics should be on them' and took them becuase I knew no different. My cholesterol decreased to 3.6 (which I now know to be slightly too low) but they increased my hba1c from 48 on diagnosis to 54, I was unable to sleep and I had dizzy spells which came on without warning - I considered this dangerous as I have an hours commute each way to work though the Somerset levels along narrow roads with deep water filled ditches either side and little traffic! I decided to top taking them and felt so much better and, luckily I was not on them long enough for any real damage to be done s my hba1c has been 36 for the last 3 years. I have the statins conversation with my DN each check-up who tells me other varieties are available but I politely refuse her offer!

I have had high cholesterol since before statins, I had a progressive doctor who began testing as soon as the test developed. All but one of my GPs (who also had high cholesterol but refused to take them, and thus prescribe them), has put me on one or another. None worked, levels always between 7 and 8, except when I tried Atkins in the dim and distant past. I just flatly refuse now, my joint pain worsens and for what? Heart tests done when I worked in the Middle East ( private medical insurance) were fine 3 years ago, arteries fine, no deposits. Have got fatty liver but I'm hoping stricter lchf will help with that.
