Hi,

I just wondered if anyone here could point me in the direction of any research/reports etc around the denial of diabetes?
My husband was in denial about his diagnosis and insurance company are now using this as a reason to refuse his life insurance (died of cancer).

My condolences Pam.
Sorry, although we often here about denial (though more in teenagers re Type 1 than adults re Type 2), I don't know of any proper studies down on it.

Sorry to hear this and condolences from me too, it’s the last thing you need. You’d likely benefit from some legal input - perhaps Citizen’s Advice or a local legal centre if you have one.

Thanks for that - have tried that….. it’s a pretty challenging area as for 90-95% of people a quick phone call with the practice nurse discussing a blood test would have been sufficient but my husband suffered with depression anyway and was as stubborn as they come….. he also assumed that because no other doctor or health care professional mentioned it in the 20 months between the call and renewing our insurance, that this confirmed it must have been wrong….. they actually have it recorded where he said he felt fine and didn’t need the medication but they are still refusing to accept that this was ‘reasonable’. Last appeal is imminent so just looking for any and all material regarding denial and mental health issues that can feed into that in order to bolster my point - at the moment ombudsman investigation has upheld for insurance company so have one last chance with the ombudsman before a final final decision is made
