I have been prescribed Prednisolone to help me recover from chest infection. I took them yesterday morning and my blood sugar rocketed to 19 y early evening. My GP said nothing about this happening. I was awake half the night restless and by morning my sugar was normal after correction. No idea how much extra insulin to take, just guesswork. GP not got back to me.

Different people have different insulin doses, but steroids usually increase bg a lot, so watch your reaction.

if your uk you should be assigned a DSN which most hospistals appear to have a time of day can call in. ask about correctional doses how much of an effect 1 unit has on mmol. be careful not to stack fast acting as you you can drop twice as quick. i'd pay attention to keytones as well. presume you have ability to measure those. whilst speaking with dsn / dr might be worth asking if havent received info on treating higher keytone levels with high sugars getting that at the same time. if your glucose meter has ability to check for keytones and u have keytone test strips if high glucose teens+ for a few hours and +3 keytone (blood) get yourself upto a&e. +1.5 call nhs 24.
