I have had a liver transplant in September and after treatment for rejection with strong steroids I have now become insulin dependant. I was previously type 2 taking 1 metformin a day. I have been told that I may revert to type 2 as the medication is reduced. Has anyone had experience of this?

I recently replied to an similar question that was raised by another member about Steroids.
The answer is very much the same as I mentioned at that time, Steroids and Diabetes simply don't mix well together and need to be under constant supervision by an acclaimed medical expert (Steroids interfere with B/G take up into cells and as a result will raise B/G levels)
You should make the point to your Dr that you are DIABETIC, and many Dr's who know this will then generally adjust the Steroid dosage and recommend that it only be taken on alternate days, so as to allow B/G levels to settle back.
This isn't the ultimate answer, but is generally a good compromise during the time the diabetic individual is compelled to also take the Steroids for their on-going medical condition.
You would need to discuss this point with your Dr who can then find the best means for your taking the Steroids with the minimum of additional diabetic medications, at least for the time being until your recent Liver transplant has had time to stabilise.

Best wishes for the future - Lazybones
