Still Confused!!

I posted a while back about my diagnosis and how the first blood test come back at 54 and they put me on metformin, I then changed my diet low carbing and lost a few pounds. I saw the diabetic nurse who was unhappy at me being put on meds before a 2nd blood test had been done.

I then went on to have a 2nd hba1c the diabetic nurse then said she couldn’t officially diagnose me as the 2nd blood test I had come back as 45 she believed this to be down to metformin and diet change. She then asked me to stop taking it for a while and eat as I would have normally.Until I had a glucose tolerance test.

My question is I had it this morning and they did a finger prick test first and my figure was 8.6 on the testing machine is that normal because of me fasting all night?? After I drunk the horrible stuff and sat around for 2 hours I felt really exhausted and disoriented so don’t want to have to do it again!

Due to all the confusion about diagnosing me I’ve not really had many questions answered etc I’m hoping the test comes back and it’s all clear but I have a funny feeling I’m deluding myself with thinking like that. Sorry for rambling on

A fasting blood glucose level of 8.6 mmol/L is not normal. Over 7 mmol/L is diagnostic of diabetes:

Thanks for the response, I think I kinda knew it wasn’t good but wasn’t sure how bad potentially. That is the first time I’ve had my blood sugars tested in that way so was not sure how it worked.

You'll need a blood glucose meter if you are going to monitor yourself.
