Still a bit confused about some things
I asked my doctor about monitoring my BG but she said I should not do that as meters are not 100% accurate
and if I did not get the results I wanted or thought I should have then I would just worry about it all the time
Well I got a meter anyway...naughty me I won't tell her.... and tried testing once a day for a few days mostly at breakfast time... frightened to do it at tea time in case I was eating all the wrong things and my BG went sky high.
Still not sure on the readings I got if they are good or bad. Mornings before breakfast BG have been in 7's and 6's after two hours gone down to low 6's or in the 5's
Example today my GB was 6.6 before breakfast I had 2 slices of turkey bacon, with mushrooms and tomato cooked in a ceramic coated pan on the top of the stove with a smidging of olive oil not 2 hours yet so have not tested
Is this all the wrong stuff to eat
I have read a lot about low carbs on here and it seems most of you say it is the only way to control BG but not sure what low carb is as you all seem to do it a different way. I decided I would cut out starchy foods so have stopped bread potatoes rice pasta and all cakes and biscuits etc I do love all root veg though but some say they are bad for BG I eat all leafy greens I especially like spinach love it raw in salad or cooked.I have always been one of natures lean kind so weights not a problem.
Yesterday for tea I had turkey, black cabbage.. a type of chard.. and celariac mash hope that was good but I did not test. This would be a good example of what my evening meals would be with mostly chicken and fish

I think that sounds bang on. Well done on taking control.

Add an egg or two to that and I will come over and join you for breakfast!

Not "bad" but you ideally want to be seeing numbers in the 5.x region before breakfast.

You said you were on a low fat diet but I think also that you didn't need to lose weight, so I'm not sure how you square that circle. Low fat foods tend to be higher carb which is what you don't want.

well done aleast your taking control. my dn wasn't happy I was testing my b/s seems she seemed disappointed I was well on my way to better health without her lol. the meals sound lovley and the celeriac mas h yummy will have to try, as ive been looking to try food as im finding it abit bland and tasteless, lunch was 2 slices of ham slice cheese and few prawns and cuppa and done the job well in filling me up . well done you and good luck x

For an idea of best control you should test before meals and then ~2hrs after them. This is the only way you will know what foods work, and don't work for you. It can be scary sometimes to find out if you get high numbers but temporary high values cause no harm; it's when it is constant it become a health issue.

The reason your BG is dropping post breakfast is there seems to be little-no carbs there. You're diet management only at present aren't you?

I think you should consult your diabetes nurse/team as for a medical professional to discourage you from blood testing is, to me, very wrong.

I'd agree with the others, that you've done very well in adapting your diet and you'll continue to see the results of this, as the weeks go on.

Please don't be frightened of checking your BG, though. Bad results are pretty good at making you take that extra level of control, but they'll only do that if you know about them.

Which kind of reminds me of a relative who always used to put letters from the taxman behind the clock on the mantelpiece. There they'd stay, untouched, on the pretext that they only contained bad news if he opened them ......
