Hi New to this I have been glucose intolerant for about 9 years but after recent blood tests the nurse thinks I may now be diabetic as both parents and brothers are I have to wait til 28 Sept for my next blood test and got appointment with nurse the following week been put on low sugar/fat diet but past few days been feeling sick and dizzy and got constant headache I'm going on hols in few days and there is no appointment free for Dr or nurse till I get back

Hi and welcome. If you are worried you can buy a glucose meter and do some checks yourself or ask your local chemist for a spot check. Diabetes will not usually cause headaches or dizziness unless the blood sugar is very high (which, of course, it could be). The nurse was half-right when she said low-sugar and low-fat. What most of us would advise is low-carbs (sugar is just another carb) and enough fat and protein to make you feel full. Fat has nothing to do with diabetes.

[QUOput me on low fat as there is a history of cholesterol in family and I'm due to have my gallbladder removed in few months and when I met my surgeon he said it was slightly raised"Daibell, post: 919201, member: 21149"]Hi and welcome. Thanks. Obviously you have a more complex set of conditions than some of us, but be aware that total cholesterol readings are fairly meaningless as it's the HDL/LDL ratio that has an infleunce on cardio-type problems. I'm sure fat changes will be needed with no gall bladder.

I have been tempted to buy a blood sugar monitor but not understanding the readings, fear of needles and not knowing if need one has put me off

We can help you understand the readings. The needle is really small and you don't even see it because it is inside a pen-type gadget. You just click it against the side of a finger. Sometimes it stings for a moment and other times I hardly feel it at all. You probably will need to do this blood testing, as it will give you useful info about what things to eat and not eat.

Thanks for your help sorry for late reply still finding my way around site lol
