My feet are freezing! (OMG there is even a smiley for that lol) I hope it is just because of the concrete floors at work and not some new diabetes shenanigans.

I am now wearing a pair of fingerless gloves on my feet under my furry boots. Hope you are all well and cozy.
 

What a coincidence, I am walking around my apartment with insulated mittens on my feet!!! My feet are a mess, I think the cold really sets off the neuropathy, from poor circulation. My hands are a mess too. I have to keep fresh air in my apartment at all times because of the the smokers in the building I live in.
It's -40 today with the wind chill factor, all I have is a space heater and some base-board heaters in a few places.
I'm checking into Raynauds's Syndrome.

LOL We are going to start a new trend for feet mittens! Everyone will be wanting them! Not sure about electric booties though! I'd break my neck.

I have two pairs of socks on today and a spare pair in my handbag. I've ordered a new pair of boots to see if that will help and have fashioned a foot rest out of a cardboard box for under my desk to keep my feet off the cold floor. Trying to move about more too. Will see if that helps. The temperature wasn't even below zero yesterday. Just some days you are cold to the bone and can't warm up. Minus 40?! Wow. When my ex-hub was in the army he spent some time in eastern Russia where it was so cold that, if you peed outside, it would freeze before it hit the ground! (I believed him, but now I see it written down, I suspect he was joking )

Keep Warm FG, and look after your fingers. That dream Les Paul wont play itself
 
LOL, yeah, this frozen feet thing is so obnoxious. This is the "Year of the Cold Feet".

I understand that cayenne is sometimes used in socks by people who work outdoors, but that diabetes people have to be careful because we may not be able to feel the burning due to possible numbness .
Same with electric blankets, although that would solve some of my problem at night.

Now the building management is b*tchin' about the heating/electric bill. Have had serious Issues with them for almost 5 years due to second-hand smoke in my apt. I have permission from the landlord to keep the windows open. I live in an Arctic environment indoors as well as out.

I'm seeing my GP on Thursday to see if she wants me to get my heart checked out. I don't like some of the sensations I'm getting in my heart/chest area. Might be related to the DB.

Moving about is definitely very good for the circulation. Even tapping the feet to music seems to help.Poor circulation seems to be the issue with all of these hands and feet problems. For me, living in a frigid environ doesn't help.


I keep thinking of that B.B. King TV commercial where he uses the "one-touch" glucometer and starts playing, "Lucille", his guitar. (The focus is on the reduced pain of finger-lancing using this product, not on diabetic neuropathy, but it's still encouraging. The fact that he has diabetes and can still play as usual is what is great )

What is wrong with your heart?! Best of luck with your GP. Have you considered an air purifier for the smoke? Would that be cheaper to run?

I am seeing the practice nurse today and am not looking forward to it. My GP gave me sheets to read and I have to ask the nurse any questions about them. The sheets are about diabetes and the low fat/plenty of fruit diet I should be following. If the nurse is anything like my GP, I will run away! (Run? With these feet?)

I didn't want to use the words "low carb" when speaking to my GP last week in case her head started spinning Exorcist-style, so I said I was on a "reduced carb" diet. She had two questions about this:

1- Do you eat jam? Jam - that thing you get when you mix refined white sugar with fructosy fruit? Jam?? Even if I did eat it, what would I put it on? Toast, cake, pie? Seriously, for a split second I thought it was a trick question LOL

2 - What mixer would you put in gin? D'uh, liquidized mars bars obviously!!

I will try to steer the conversation today away from diet and on to feet. They are not too bad today (three pairs of socks and furry boots) Amazon are delivering my new boots today. Yaay!

I am just back from the nurse and am actually quite shocked. I now have a copy of a more detailed NHS diet...it looks worse when it is in black and white

I asked the nurse what my cholesterol results were like and she said they had not been taken recently with my HbA1c. Weird then that the GP had been pushing statins on me. Moving on, I am seeing the dietician and podiatrist next week and the eye clinic the following week. I declined the desmond course. I was refused testing strips despite my best argument.

The first words out of my new nurse's mouth were, "Are you xxxx's mum?" She is a school mum so I will have to be on my best behaviour and not be such a bolshie cow. Meh.

I'm getting my heart checked because it is doing strange stuff, like sudden flashes of pain, "squeezing" feeling, heaviness in heart area.
It could be just indigestion; I still have to wait for the Obamacare to go through so it will take weeks before I can see an actual specialist, but will check with GP in the meantime.

My hands and feet are very worrisome too, as I've mentioned earlier. They are cold and slightly numb even in normal temps.
I can't see any specialist until the Obamacare goes through, and there have been humongous glitches so far with my application, just as expected.

All of these symptoms have been historically known to be diabetes-related; however, the heart issues might have developed on their own and were helped along by the diabetes.

I hope that the boots and socks help with the freezing feet issue, A7. It's incredibly painful, annoying and life-altering.

I have an air-purifier which is worth over $1,000, but, it doesn't do the job. I must have fresh-air circulating through my apartment. I will be seeing a legal aid lawyer tomorrow and explain the long history of the second-hand smoke issues. The building management company that the landlord hired consists of incompetent twerps, so its possible they were not aware that I have permission to keep the windows open all year around, including window-fans.
I am typing this with gloves on my hands and feet. (not typing with my feet ,though, LOL)

Where did you get that photo of my GP?! LOL I was actually quite upset by the diet sheet yesterday. I felt that it would more honest for the docs to just take me to the car park and give me the Old Yeller treatment. Cut out the middleman. Anyway, going to ignore it and carry on with great food that is making me feel better.

Hope your heart worries turn out to be nothing. Must be scary meantime. What would happen if you did not have health insurance and got ill (pre Obamacare)? I take it for granted that if I get ill I can be seen in a day or two and that all my meds and treatments are free. Must be so stressful to have to worry about red tape and money when you are most vulnerable.

Forgot to say that I was told yesterday that my first HbA1c is 63 (7.9%). Bit high, but reckon I am making good progress with getting it down. I can't do links (typing on a tablet and am all thumbs!) but I was playing with an online tool last night - google HbA1c calculator - it's the first search result. Maybe you have seen it. Type in your daily average and it estimates your HbA1c. It is quite motivational.
