Stinging sensation at the end of my penis

danvar

Newbie
Hello,
I found out I had Type 2 diabetes in 2005. I’ve been taking oral medication since about 2008 (Metfromin and Simvastatin). I have been suffering the following symptoms for the last couple of years and I’m wondering if it is related to the diabetes or the medication I’m taking. I get a stinging sensation at the end of my penis as if I have been peeing diluted acid and it's driving me mad because it affects my sleep all night. Once I am awake and out of bed I am less aware of the irritation and burning/stinging sensation as it is less severe for some reason. It usually lasts for a few days and then disappears for a few days before I get it again. It’s so frustrating as the irritation is not severe but just enough to irritate and affect my sleep. It’s really beginning to affect my job as I’m always tired. The other thing I think is worth mentioning is that I have lost about 10lb in the last 6 weeks. I know It’s not a urine infection nor is it related to a lack of hygiene. I was just wondering if anyone else has been suffering with these symptoms and if it is related to diabetes.
Best regards

Hi Danvar, i'd talk to your doctor or diabetic nurse about this if i were you, as far as i know what you are suffering from is not a known side effect of your medication( i take the same as you along with other drugs). It does sound to me like a recurring bladder infection, but i'm no expert. If its got to the point where its causing you this much discomfort its time to see your doctor and get it sorted :!: Make an appointment today :)

it sounds like thrush to be totally honest. i used to have it when i was on a tablet only medication. basically if there is too much sugar in your urine you will develop thrush, as the previous poster said, go and see a doctor or nurse. its probably an indication that your diabetes isnt well enough controled.

Hi There
is your diabetes well under control?
as said above if your levels are a little high and you have excess glucose in your urine it can cause a problem, you will usually find a thickening of the skin there, as well as an almost waxy texture to it, try plenty of fluids to dilute your urine and a dab of Bepanthen or similar cream will help prevent further irritation
hope that helps in this delicate matter, but dont hesitate to speak to your doctor about it

Hi Danvar
I was diagnosed type 2 in Jan 09 & straight onto Metformin SR & Atorvastatin.
I have had the same problem for 12 months & have tried all different solutions with no success, tend to work at first but the pain returns, so bl**dy annoying.
I went to doctor once & was given an anti-biotic which worked at first but back again after a few days. I keep putting off going back to doctor hoping for a simple solution to avoid any embarrassment. Finger up the bum etc not a pleasent thought
Looks like linked to diabetes or maybe Metformin side affect. My control is reasonable & Ha1bc was 6.4 last month.
I have slight protein in the urine 8 months ago & am now on Ramapril + Aspirin.
I went to doctors once in 25 years before diagnosis but @ 49 seemed destined to take ever more pills & visits to doctors & hospitals.
Lets hope to get a easy solution, I tried green tea for 4 weeks, but no real benefit. Coffee definately is a problem for me & I now only have 2 drinks a day.
Maybe try more water & less tea

Had exactly the same symptoms it was diagnosed as balanitis and had to get circumcised because of the infections :?
on the up side i did manage to watch all of euro 2006 :D
