Hi. I’ve been T2 since 2000 and take Metformin (timed release) and inject Victoza for diabetes, amongst other drugs for other things. Been on Victoza just over 12 months. Since September I’ve been having problems with my stomach / digestion and have numerous tests endoscopy, MRI scan, colonoscopy and all come back “normal”. I still get times where I feel nauseous, bloated and uncomfortable and have no appetite and when I do eat I wish I hadn’t! I am seeing my GP this week for the results of latest test (colonoscopy) but GP intimated it may be IBS or Victoza. I was diagnosed with IBS years ago and the symptoms feel very different and I know Victoza is strong but thought my body would be used to it. I’m worried it could be gastroparesis - should I suggest that or am I being a drama queen? I’m SO fed up of it, it’s controlling my life. Sorry for going on, appreciate your time.

Have you tried avoiding certain foods to see if that helps?
I wouldn't jump in and suggest gastroparesis or any other diabetic complication. It could easily be something else - and remember, just because a test comes back negative, doesn't mean you definitely don't have that condition (some coeliacs test negative but feel back to normal when they go gluten free).

If the latest test is negative, you could try avoiding certain products. Have you ever (even slightly) suspected particular foods? If so, start there. For instance, if you've felt bloated after coffee with cream, you could try avoiding dairy products.

If you do decide to avoid certain foods, do mention that to your GP. He/she might suggest a method to follow.

Oldoak - None of us here can form a diagnosis. What has your Doctor suggested as the next steps?

Victoza is known to have some side effects and may not be the best thing to have if you have IBS or similar? I assume you have been prescribed it to help with weight reduction? Are you also having a low-carb diet to help with any weight reduction?

Thanks for replies. Wasn’t expecting diagnosis, just perhaps if someone had similar symptoms I would have something to compare with, seeing doc on Thursday to see what he suggests going forward. Wasn’t prescribed Victoza for weight reduction but coz I couldn’t take gliclicide and the like. Victoza has brought blood sugar levels down and kept them down so don’t want to give it up unless it really is the problem. Thanks again for help. Will give the food avoidance idea a run past my doc too.

Hey @Oldoak, am a suffere of IBS as well. Do have a look at the FODMAP way of eating - eliminating foods that have been found to really affect IBS - Monash University in Australia is where the initial research was conducted and you will find info on their website. It has really helped many of us tremendously in knowing triggers....it could be that your IBS has worsened or it could be some other issue. Hope you get it figured out as your symptoms sound most distressing.....Blessings/L
