Sorry, I can't imagine how tiring it is to deal with endless questions from newbies! But...

I started blood testing for the first time this morning. My fasting level was 5.9 and two hours after breakfast it was 5.7. I was expecting it to be higher not lower... have I misunderstood? I realise one reading doesn't tell me much and I need to do more, but I'm a bit nonplussed!

Often happens. What was breakfast?
The forum is here to answer your questions so carry on asking. How can any of us learn otherwise? :)

Thanks for that! I had a cheese omlette and tea with soya milk for breakfast.

That seems fine. I wouldn't expect a big jump in BS from that so it had probably settled again by the 2-hour test.

That's a very low carb meal. If you ate that regularly, you fasting and hba1c would be very good.

Keep it up. Keep testing, keep posting, keep asking questions.

LCHF seems to be suiting me. I have a lot of weight to lose but I can't abide being hungry and I seem to be losing weight without feeling deprived or ravenous. These readings are a lot lower than the ones I got from the Doctor, too, so at the moment things are moving in the right direction!

Thanks for your support - this forum is an absolute life saver (literally, I suspect).

Those numbers are great!

Now, I'm not encouraging you to eat bad stuff, but in your situation (pre-D, with things nicely under control), I encourage you to do a bit of experimentation.

Try some carby foods. Test before, at 1hr, 2 hrs and more, if nec.
Map out your responses.
Compare foods. Grains v starchy veg. Choc v cake... Different portion sizes.

It will teach you soooo much. And you will learn what does and doesn't suit your body.

The reason I suggest this is because it is very easy to get v strict, very quickly, when you start LCHF. Yet, as a preD, your body may allow you a good bit of wiggle room, if you take the time to work it exactly where you can do the wiggling ;).

I'm all for low carbing, but why deny yourself enjoyable options, if they don't spike you?

Did I say how fab your numbers are?
