Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had similar advice from their GP this week, I had a text from them this afternoon stating if I show any symptoms I need to stop my Metformin & my ACE straight away which I assume ACE refers to one of my BP meds which is an ACE inhibitor, whilst i think my blood sugars which are normally quite well controlled can cope with a week or two off meds, my BP is not controlled & I'm on 2 different meds and it's still very high, I was due to go back to GP about now to decide if to change or up my meds if my readings were still high (which they are even worse now with extra anxiety) but obviously I'm not going near the surgery for anything that's not an emergency at the moment. But am worried about stopping my BP meds if I get any symptoms as my BP is so high. Just wondering if everyone has had the same advice from their GPs, I work for the NHS and havent seen anything about this at work. Many thanks .

Zac - The following link should confirm if your BP medication is in the class of ACE Inhibitors: http://www.bloodpressureuk.org/BloodPressureandyou/Medicines/Medicinetypes/ACEInhibitors

I'm not on any blood pressure meds myself, but hopefully someone with experience will comment in due course.

Hi @Zac72 , I am on Ramipril which is an ACE inhibitor, I was worried when I first read that this might be a problem if I were to catch Covid-19 . I have done a bit of research and this is the latest article I’ve found about it. As I read it, it is only a theoretical risk and nothing proves this theory yet, whilst the risks of stopping these meds might be worse than keeping on taking them. Ultimately you need to discuss it with your GP, I think it’s unfair and worrying to just send a text without you being given the opportunity to discuss it.

Edit to add, I’m also on Metformin and haven’t been instructed to stop either drug.

Thanks both, I work with the head of pharmacy for our nhs trust and last week she said there was nothing to worry about and that I'd be more at risk stopping the medication, that's why I'm totally confused by my doctors surgerys advice to their diabetic patients, doesnt sound right to me, I can understand possibly stopping tablets if you can't keep them down but as far as I know that isn't a symptom of this virus
