Just when I thought I was getting my head round this whole diabetes thing, I have a day where i feel like I don't have a clue what's going on! :?

I had a different breakfast yesterday compared to normal. Grabbed a (small) bowl of shreddies as really wasnt in the mood for my ususal fruit & soy yog and didn't have anything else quick to hand. Anyway, as that would be way more carbs than usual, i expected my BG levels to be a bit high, but started to feel strange a little while before lunchtime and was down to 3.9.

Ate something to counteract that to stop me from going any lower, then had lunch at the normal time, normal stuff, but also was a bit naughty in the early afternoon and had a tiny bar of dark choc from Marks (5.7g carbs I think), and some of those biscuits made for babies that are 3.7g carbs each, so again expected to be a little higher than normal but again felt a bit odd just before hometime (about 5pm) and was back down to 4.1. (on a normal day would expect to be around the mid to high fives at this time).

This is not the first day my levels have gone lowish before lunch but previously I've been able to attribute it to having a much more active morning than normal, which wasn't the case yesterday. Also had more then my usual intake of carbs yesterday so can't understand the lows. Am I missing something? I know the levels ar not massively low but want to try to understand what's going on to help with my control in the future. There seem to be just so many variables that it seems an impossible task sometimes!

Am type 2 and on 500mg metaformin and 4g glimepiride in the morning and another 500mg metaforming in the evening).

May be time for another round of intensive testing and monitoring....

I'm not on meds so can't comment on some of your readings. But the breakfast thing doesn't suprise me. If I have much at all in the way of carbs in the evening, I get high BGs, but at breakfast I eat about 70grams of carbs with a big bowl of shredded wheat in milk, bit of fresh orange juice and coffee, and 2 hours later I'll be in the 4's. Recently I was 3.8! Big cereal type carbs just don't effect me in the mornings! In terms of the rest of your day, well, we do have varying days I've found. Perhaps due to things we did the day before, how well we slept, the mood we're in etc. Just be glad it was a "good" different and not a "bad" different!

I sometimes wonder if, for those of us Type 2s who are limiting our carb intake and thus giving our pancreas a bit of a rest and time to recover;

if we eat more carbs than usual our nicely-rested pancreas doesn't somehow overcompensate with the insulin and take us lower than expected?

I had something similar with a 99 icecream a few weeks ago (yes, fake icecream, fake chocolate, probably fake cone :lol: ) when 2 hours later I was down to 3.7!

Anyone else got any thoughts?

"Fake chocolate" - something that has probably not come out of the Cadbury factory, let alone Lindt or Green & Black! (Other makes of chocolate are available.)

I like chocolate as black as possible - eg 90% proof. Which would be lovely with real dairy icecream, come to think of it!
