Usually my blood sugar readings are high,(quite often in the 20's) even when I am very careful! This week I have been gardening and had a few hypos. Yesterday I had not been doing any exercise and took my normal dose of novo rapid before dinner only 6 units. After dinner I was a bit naughty and had some Cadbury mini eggs. My blood sugar before dinner was about 12 but I had had a biscuit shortly before. I went to bed early to read. I felt a bit sick so I thought I had overdone the sweets so I tested because I thought I might need to take a couple of units of insulin to get it down. I tested and it was 5! I was still feeling sick but waited and took a reading about 15 minutes later. It was 4. At that point I took some glucogel which is revolting! Called my husband who bought me some sweets, I was feeling really sick and had trouble keeping these down. Tested, still 4 , was slightly sick. Had some more sweets, and glucogel, test 3.6. Ate 4 wine gums gave up through exhaustion and went to sleep! Morning sugars 13!
Anyone had anything like this? I usually respond quickly to sweets. Could anything else be wrong? Help!

Hi,
do you carb count? all i can suggest is that u maybe injected too much for what you ate? if my bloods are higher than normal the hypo always seems worse, then morning sugars could be high due to over feeding your hypo, you really need to get those bloods lower, do u know what your carb to insulin ratio is?

I don't know how it happened, I think carb to insulin is about 1.5. I kept wondering if I overdosed, but I really can't remember taking an extra dose! I carb counted recently, that made no difference either! Thanks for answering! I was just thinking I had got better just recently! Going out to do some gardening in a minute better keep testing so I don't crash again!

Your exercise in the garden could be having a knock-on effect hours later.
I always find fast acting liquids such as coke or lucozade bring me out of hypo much quicker than sweets etc. One time I struggled to get my levels up I used glucogel and it worked quickly but as you said tasted awful.
Could the fat from the mini eggs have slowed down how you absorbed the carbs in the meal but the insulin would have still worked as normal? Maybe this and being active caused the hypo?
