Strange Levimer goings on - help plz

Hi all,

Not posted for a while hope everyone is good.

Ok so for the past 2 days it seems that as soon as my Novorapid runs out i.e there's less then 1u on board my levels start to go up especially through the night, it's only been happening since Monday, here's what's changed.
  • Monday night opened a new Levimer pen
  • Monday nights Levimer injection went into a spot in the the leg that was very tough i.e i had to force the plunger for it to go in, same thing happened last night same part of the leg again (I know I should have used another area)
What do you guys think it could be

A) Bad insulin in new pen
B) Insulin gone into bad spots and not being absorbed properly

Not eaten any high fat or high protein meals that take ages to digest so that's defo not it.
 
.Hi @O_DP_T1, welcome back. I think that in the second sentence, starting with OK, that you mean Levemir rather than Novorapid ?
It sounds like you may have injected into an area on your thigh that is scarred. The insulin, any insulin, injected there is not likely to be absorbed reliably. That area needs to be avoided for a long time.
I wonder if you always inject into your thighs?
As well as trying a new, non-tough area of perhaps the other thigh, have you thought about other sites like tummy, backside, arms? I appreciate that with ? 5 injections per day it is a challenge to keep track of where you have injected and where else to try.
I saw and then copied an injection guide I saw, back when I was using the same insulins. It was some thin cardboard, big enough to cover the injection area of one thigh, the outer part of the thigh that is, so a rectangular shape. 2 vertical sets of holes were cut so that you have 4 holes in 2 rows to use as guides of where to inject and record where you have injected.
You can use the guide or something a bit smaller for the tummy area and backside. Maybe smaller for the arms depending on your size.
so you have 8 injections sites on each thigh = 16, same for tummy, backside, and arms = 64. So in theory you would not be back to the same area of injection for about just under 13 days.
Hope that the fresh site works better and that you can rotate your sites to minimise the trouble happening again.

Hey @O_DP_T1 could be like @kitedoc said you have gone into an area that is scared, or it might be, if your using one of those pre-filled pens, that could be malfunctioning.

Try a different site and try a new pen :)

Cheers guys, @kitedoc it feels like once the NovoRapid runs out i.e after about 4 hours the background Levimer is either not working or not working properly if that makes sense.
 
Yes, try a different site. If that doesn’t work, a different pen? If that doesn’t work could it be that your basal needs have changed, in response to colder weather, or some other influence?
A basal test might help.
