Type 2 Stress and T2

I was diagnosed last Aug with T2 and although being overweight is the obvious reason for some people, i believe mine was caused by stress and depression following a bereavement. Yes i comfort ate and sat on the sofa most evenings but stress really was the trigger. Has anyone else been told or believes that stress contributed to this illness? I have read a few discussions on this app and a lot of people do talk about their depression and anxiety. So sad.

Hi Saimalicious Yes I strongly believe stress and depression was the cause of my Type 2 diabetes too. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago the doctor said I had had it for 6 years and not known until tested 4 weeks ago, that is when I lost my son to a road traffic accident. Yes I comfort ate and practically didn't do much for a long time , put it this way I didn't live just existed, if that makes sense. I am with you on this as I for one know. :sorry: Sorry for your bereavement :)

Having gone through the symptoms of fluctuating blood glucose levels. Which is really bad, because anxiety, depression and stress go hand in hand.
Add the horrible effects of bereavement, (mother in law, last week,) and it is hardly surprising that diabetics have a hard time controlling their blood glucose levels.

I believe it is reasonable to try and be good but acceptable if you fail. As long as you get yourself back on the wagon as soon as you are ready. Slowly does it!

If you have to, eat little and often!
