Feeling long-term conditioned out. I'm only 58 so arguing that I am still young, I try to be fit an active, and I think manage my weight well enough. But in the last 5 years in addition I have had, an aortic heart valve replacement, lost a kidney (careless I know) struggled with long COVID and then two weeks ago I had a stroke. I was in hospital for 10 days but home now.

Is it my bad luck? In hospital I was moved onto insulin for first time, initially on a constant insulin machine and now injections twice a day as well as metaformin.

I have a face to face appointment with the Diabetes clinic nurse on Thursday. Just now memory is a thing, but are there things that are useful to ask about my Diabetes T2 and stroke? I really don't fancy a second stroke

Thanks, Chris

Thanks Pipp, looking more specificly about Strokes for people with diabetes. There is a lot of information about increased risks of stroke for people with diabetes T2, but not much about how to manage things. Stroke really through of my glucose balance.

So sorry, @chris66uk . I understand you must be feeling quite apprehensive about your consultation. I haven’t personally experienced stroke. So not much more advice I can offer.
I know that member @IanBish recently reported having a stroke. I have copied a thread he started and tagged him, (hoping he won’t mind) as he maybe has some relevant experience and advice to offer.

Sorry to hear that @chris66uk.

I think the hospital were less concerned about what caused my stoke, but they were more concerned about managing it, and trying to avoid another one. Diabetes wasn't mentioned to me, but there were two guys on my ward with strokes who had diabetes, but I'd don't know if that was the cause either. Sorry I can't be more help, but all the best for your recovery, and here's wishing you don't have another one.

So sorry for the bad news, hold in tight. You are young and strong!

Hi @chris66uk. Did you have any prior indication of cardiovascular disease before having the CVD incidents? Usually preceeded by signs or symptoms, like raised blood pressure, or I hate to say it as I am in this position - rising blood glucose which would/could affect arteries, and sign of artherosclerosis (excuse spelling).

Or, was it all out of the blue?
