Strong urge to sleep immediately after a meal

I noticed sometines I have a really strong urge to doze off after a meal. I know this is an effect of hyper 'spikes' but sometimes this happens even with very low carb meals? The sensation lasts for between 10 mins to an hour.

Any ideas why?

It usually happens within 15 mins of finishing a meal and goes after a brief nap. Any ideas?

This happens to everyone, diabetic or non diabetic. If you ask anyone, they will tell you they also feel like sleeping after their meals. This happens because when you eat all the blood flows right to your stomach in order to digest the food you have eaten. This is why it is normal to have a rest after heavy meals so that your stomach can do its job properly. You just don’t worry about your sleepiness, it lasts only until you have digested the food you have eaten.

What was your pre-meal level ? Have you taken your bg levels after a low carb meal, when you feel sleepy ? What did it consist of ?

Premeal it was 5.6, then two hours after the meal it was 5.7? (Yes, this is a very low BS for me! lol)

I had two smallish grilled chicken thighs (skinless) marinated lightly in a bbq seasoning. A side salad with a vinegrette dressing (had small amount of beetroot juliettes in it). A tomato and a small avocado.

Usually any carbs raise my levels for the rest of the day (and more). This didn't happen at 2 hours as you can see.

Hi PP.
Did you test the level at the time you felt sleepy.......that is what Sue was looking for ? At the 2 hr level it would probably have been on the way down.....what from...who knows.

If I am on one of my few days working (manual work), I usually go through a tired spell around 3 OClock (not after the meal). This rights itself by 5 OClock. Is this something to do with my tablets? Or not taking time after the meal to digest food? Or something else?
