Help, newly on 16ml insulin but sugars still high, trying to eat right foods and exercise more but still not shifting, any tips please?
How long ago did you start insulin?
Finding the right dose takes time. Some people need 10 units a day, others need 200. An overdose is very dangerous, so finding the right dose means slowly titrating up until it's more or less right without going too low.
Are you having regular contact with your diabetes nurse, or have you had clear instructions on how to titrate up? Usually it's a once or twice a week small increase under the guidance of your HCP.
What kind of numbers are you seeing when you say high?
Twenties and higher teens all the time may be worth a call to 111. Should you feel very ill or nauseous with such numbers, definitely seek emergency help!
If lower teens with the occasional excursursion into higher numbers it makes sense to work on finding the right dose, which takes time.
What are you eating and do you test your blood glucose before and two hours after meals to see how different meals affect your BG?
