Hiya, Everybody!

I am wondering but does anybody got
a certain ritual to taking their tablets?

I am taking Metex XR, I take two of the
500mg tablets before dinner time but I
am struggling to swallow my tablets, it
is traumatic experience for me, it feels
like I am drowning and manage to hurt
my throat too, this is mostly to do with
the size and the taste of outer coating.

I had this problem since being a young
child with trying to swallow tablets, so
I would always buy the smaller tablets
of whatever I had to take but I can't do
that for this exact type of medication.

I'm looking forward to hear back from
the community, so thanks in advance.

Can the pills be broken - by hand or with a pill cutter?

My brother also has this problem, he takes them with food, rather than water.
Given the minimal effect that Metformin has, is it worth the discomfort?
Liquid Metformin is available.

@pumas

that's not good so I am sorry to hear to
about that, I've tried taking it with food
but I choked, so when that will happen
my automatic reaction is to spit it out.

Liquid Metformin? didn't know about it.

I have a problem with tablets but I found a solution that may help you I have a spoonful of yoghurt and then put. the tablet in my mouth with another spoonful of yoghurt and swallow then I find that it will slip down

@carty

I've tried that as well but same thing, I
choked and when the mixture of outer
coating of tablets / flavoured yoghurt
do mix together, doesn't taste correct
plus yoghurt could react with what I'll
have for dinner after it too.

I use natural full fat yoghurt and I have never had any reaction to anything that I have eaten with it but I hope you find an answer

Practise with frozen peas and a small amount of water. Sometimes people with this issue try with too much water - like me, but now I'm fine.

@Fruitella

thank you for the advice but for me, it
is a size and taste problem, can't even
place the tablet on my tongue without
nearly being sick.

I'd suggest hypnotism, EFT, or other kinds of therapy/counselling

Good luck

If I think about the swallowing I can have the same problem but if I don't think about it and very quickly take the water after putting the tablet in my mouth and don't stop to think about it, I have swallowed it before I know it

Metex is metformin I think?
You can get liquid metformin but not sure if you can get XR in liquid form. Have you spoken with your medical team to see if there is something they can do to help?

Yes, Metex XR is Metformin.

Just found out about liquid metformin
throughout this post because I did not
know about it at all and I don't know, if
that's available within australia, where
I am from.

To be honest, my own doctor confuse
me about certain things and it's doing
my head in.
