Hi all,
Diagnosed T2 at the end of January GP wanted me to try and reverse it by diet first, i reversed to pre diabetic in 8 weeks and have lost 14kg to date, I've really hit a wall this last 2 weeks and have given in to eating more of the stuff I shouldn't, my BG is mostly between 6.0 to 6.5, i have been doing a lot more walking this month due to doing a 300,000 steps for my local hospital, last Sunday I did a 10k walk for prostate cancer UK and ended up doing 15 miles in total that day, I'm also doing the diabetes UK 1m steps and have already passed 582,000 steps, i have until the end of September to complete the million, and last but not least, in September I'm doing an 18 mile hike for my local hospital,so my question is how can I get past this craving for the wrong foods ie carbs and sugar? I've worked hard to get where I am and don't want to throw it all away , but just finding it difficult right now.

Well done on all you have achieved so far, @Ricku2 .
Are you eating a mainly low carb diet?
There are all sorts of reasons we return to the eating habits that are not good for us. Many of us find that when we start to eat high carb foods again, that is what triggers the craving. I do wonder if with all the walking and exercise you perhaps need to be eating a bit more of the low carb , higher fat content.

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
Even if I eat foods that are not too bad for me, like some berries etc and greek yogurt, I notice I still want more.
So easy to over eat.
Haven't eaten bread for a long time because that is drastic, just want to eat the loaf or pack of rolls.
So it is trying to stick to the foods that don't give you those cravings.
Fish ok. Meat ok as you can only eat so much I feel.
Fat certainly good.
Best of Luck with your efforts.

Hi Pipp,
I try to keep to 90g or less of carbs as that was the figure given to me when I did the Mydesmond course, I do like fish and eat a fair amount, I guess the reason I don't eat much fat is because it raises my calories and also I'm currently under investigation for fatty liver, the consultant said that they ask people to lose 10% of their body weight, and I'm heading in the right direction with this, so hopefully I can get on top of these cravings.

Hi filly,
I love fruit, thing is again with that is i love grapes and it's very hard to stop before the whole pack has been finished, I'm on holiday now for 2 weeks so hopefully I can get back on track, it doesn't help that my job can be stressful at times and that can affect what I want to eat.

Forget the calories especially as you’re doing so much exercise. The fat doesn’t make you fat and it doesn’t cause fatty liver, it’s the sugar and carbs that causes fatty liver. You have to replace the carbs with something and the best way is protein and natural fat, this will also reduce the cravings. Have. Hi Ken thighs with skin (chicken breast is too lean), if your like the fat on lamb chops eat that too. Scrambled eggs with butter and/or double cream and bacon. I’ve just discovered my favourite snack of grating cheese, placing little piles of it into a dry frying pan and cooking it until it bubbles. Remove them with a spatula onto kitchen paper and when they’re cool I put them in a little food bag and they’re like cheese crisps which I have as a snack in the evening.
