soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
My 94 year-old Mother was diagnosed T2 more recently than I[about 5 years ago]. Thus confirming what I'd been certain of before, that Diabetes is Genetic in my family and filling the only gap in the line.
Her bg is tested only rarely and is usually about 10+ and she simply won't take medicines. She was initially put on Metformin.[she told me yesterday that she hasn't any ] Now she's having trouble with her vision.
My Vet brother, who has years of treating diabetic pets under his belt, has told her to follow the diet I advise for her. Trouble is she loves bread and potatoes and resists taking anyone's advice.
She lives several hours drive from me and I'm going to have to go up with a diet sheet for her.
So far, her medical people are telling her that a bg of 10 is "Fine at your age".
Perhaps not being able to watch TV in comfort may make her change a diet of several lifetimes!

Ian,
my mother lives alone with informal support. She shops and cooks for herslf. She's been a brilliant cook all her life. Sometimes a neighbour in her small village will cook extra and bring her something. This neighbour useed to own a restaurant and is also a first rate cook. It's not the practical difficulties that cause the problem, it's the fact she doesn't believe me, although she probably believes my brother and doesn't want to cut back on things she likes and has eaten about 90 years. She's a person who gives advice, but never takes it. She'a been calling me stupid for my low carb approach for years. In addition, when her GP of 50 years retired and moved to the same village, the friendship continued and Mother will listen to Dr. Brown before me. Dr. Brown has the conventional approach. And then Dame Barbara Young owns the cottage over the road from Mother. Thus mother is the expert in diabetes.

Is your mothers poor vision related to her diabetes or just old age?....Reason I ask is that my mother is 81 and her vision has deteriorated in recent years.
