So I went to the drive through of mcds tonight, no idea why, never ever go usually, but I was driving home n the stupid clown faced idiot was enticing me in!

Anyway, I got a 'meal' looked on carbs&cals n bolus'd for 80g carb (which is horrendous coz that's more than I usually have in 1 day never mind 1 meal!) 2 hours later bg is 6.3 but I've still got 7.5 units of active insulin says my pump n I'm feeling a little sick, could it just be the awful tea that I wish I didn't have or is it likely I'm heading for a big bg drop? Either way I don't like clowns :(

I just had to google that coz I had no idea what it meant, so no I didn't, don't think I've ever heard of it before! :0

Its a feature of most pumps that allows you to extend your bolus dose over many hours to allow for the slow digestion of a meal, on the Omnipod pump I use its called an Extended Bolus.

I'm not sure how it works with a pump, but I would imagine after a McD's most people will see a drop in BG's followed by a rise due to the fat content of the meal. I know that I would using MDI, so split the bolus to catch it. Possibly this is what @dancer and @ noblehead are talking about ?

( I hate clowns, full on phobia so Mc D's is NOT an option! Ever ! )

It sounds very clever but slightly confusing lol I'll have to read more into it, no idea how I didn't know about it before, never been mentioned by DSN... Suppose it's mentioned in the manual that I've not read lol

What pump do you use?

I was once trapped in a public toilet block with someone dressed as a clown... Recurring nightmares

hun -- are you ok -- ?

Medtronic Veo

Thanks, I thought you might have been on the Omnipod.

On the Omnipod pump the Extended Bolus option comes up on the screen when it asks you to Enter (confirm) the bolus dose, when you select the EB it ask you what % you want to give now then it asks how many hours you'd like to extend the remainder of the bolus dose over, not sure how it works on the Med Veo so check the instruction manual or ask your pump DSN to explain it to you, it really is a great feature of pumps as where before on MDI it would mean 2.....possibly 3 injections in some cases.

Just been having a read & playing with my pump and I've discovered kinda how it works, suppose coz I don't often have very high carb meals I've never looked for that kind of feature.. Will defo be trying it out though thanks
