I love toast and marmalade for breakfast. If I give upbread, would Ryvita with marmalade be a reasonable substitute? I would find life very hard without marmalade.
Hi @lynbrown have you tested your reaction to bread? If I have bread I have the Hovis seeded bread (in the orange bag) which is 13 carbs per slice and 1-2 slices does not affect my BS. However, as @Bluetit1802 has already said, marmalade is probably not the best thing to have on it as it had a log of sugar - try ordinary butter, peanut butter, cheese or with eggs - poached, fried or scrambled!!

The Nairns Cheese Oatcakes are even lower at 3.7g

I ate SIX of them the other night for evening meal along with two pieces of cheese two large tomatoes and a small carrot. Two hours later blood sugar 6.7 and I definitely didn't think they tasted like cardboard!

Interesting the oatcakes are lower in carbohydrates by 2 gms. Noblehead do try the organic superseded ones. A little less crunchy but you get used to that and they are just so tasty.

Had my first Lidl high protein roll today and thought it was really tasty and I believe less than 10g carbs.
Got me thinking that i should try these not because i want to reduce my carbs though.
For me being diabetic doesn't stop me from eating what carbs i want it's just sugar laden items i avoid or drastically reduce or better still have them as a treat or to raise ones BG when needed.

Regards

Martin

Hi

I changed to Spelt bread from Sainsbury', eat about two sticks a week. My control is so good my GP could not believe I was type 2. He did not change my meds but I feel so much better. I think wheat should only be available on Perscription! Bread turns to sugar and you need to work very hard to get rid of it. Eating bread is a habit, a bad one! Cutting back will help you, most things are habit.

No no. I admit I haven't seen these LIDL rolls but I suspect they have additives and preservatives. Better to eat Nairns organic seeded oatcakes or just their plain ones. They are really lovely! 6 gms carbohydrates per oatcake.
What's wrong with additives and preservatives? other than sugar obviously, one of the most popular preservatives, after vinegar, oh and salt.

Ingredients all look nutritious to me: Water, Linseeds, Wheat Protein, Soya Flour, Whole Wheat Flour, Sesame, Soybean Meal, Sunflower Seeds, Wheat Bran, Oat Fiber, Yeast, Salt, Colouring Spice Extracts (Curcuma).

Someone posted the ingredients a few days ago. I did say - "suspect" There are many lovely breads out there. I recommend Wholefoods supermarket. They do the same recipes for their rolls so one would suffice for two servings. At the moment I am sticking with my Nairns organic super seeded oatcakes.

When I started the LCHF diet, the thing I missed most was my wife's homemade Tawny Marmalade - and anyway, we have a cupboard full which needs eating, so our solution was to go for it and have toast and marmalade at weekends, then do a decent amount of exercise - we'd cycle far and wide during the summer and now the weather's less good, we'll do a 500 kCal+ workout at the gym which for me means I don't spike over about 7.0mmol/l and I'm back to my fasting level - 5.0mmol/l within the 2 hours.

I'm really struggling now I over-stretched and hurt my ankle/shins and have to stick to walking and cross-training instead of running, it takes me nearly an hour to do 500kcal.

Sorry I missed your post @asparagusp

Already have the seeded oatcakes, I like all of the Nairn's range of oatcakes :)

but they do taste like carboard...IMHO of course

Ha, that's what my hubby says but he also said that about wholemeal and seeded bread when he was first diagnosed as a T2. He now eats wholemeal/seeded/grain but it's been trial, error and lots of muttering under his breath to find one's he likes! :joyful:

He still won't touch oatcakes though, but I really like them.

I must get myself to a Lidl somewhen to try these protein rolls. We usually go to Aldi but I don't think they have anything similar??

I looked at images of the LIDL high protein rolls - triangular and that would put me off buying them!

Hello, I'd be interested to have a link to this please. I can only find their "no added sugar" variety, which is far from low-carb, and their so-called diabetic marmalade, which has even more carbs. I'm reluctant to say how many carbs exactly since Tesco warn in their small print that the online data must not be reproduced without their permission!
EDIT Re bread|: the two nearest Lidls to me make different sized high-protein rolls. If I go 10 miles they're the small ones, but if I go 12 miles they're the large ones. Decisions, decisions ...

Now I think those Lidl rolls taste like cardboard, tried one and didn't enjoy at all.

Needless to say we all have our likes & dislikes when it comes to food :)
Glad I am not the only one who thinks the Lidl rolls are horrible

I buy a very good quality softer set marmalade (eg Bonne Maman) and just use a tiny amount.
