I was diagnosed 18 months ago. My Hb1ac was 103 and I was put on metformin and vildagliptin. Today, it is 42 and my doctor has taken me off vildagliptin. He says if I can keep to below 50, I can stay off it. He also says that this could not have been achieved without hard work. I have lost a lot of weight so that my BMI is now normal and I walk several miles a day. My diet, after reading this message board, is low carb - although I still eat oats for breakfast but they don't seem to cause me to spike. I then restrict carbs for lunch and dinner severely. My new doctor is keen on low carb and positive about me testing a lot. If it hadn't been for this board, I would probably have done what the diabetes nurse suggested when I was first diagnosed - NHS Eat Well plate with carbs for every meal. Bet I wouldn't have done so well if I had!

Very well done indeed.. its not easy but that's great progress.. keep it up we're proud of you.

Two good points. You have done a great job and secondly, your GP is on board with you. Bonus!

Great reduction @Poppy62! Well done :) Keep up the good work and you should get back down into the non-diabetic range by your next HbA1c test.
