Such a long time and am permanently worn out.

Unbeliever, I hear you, loud and clear.

Anything that can be done to ease those issues, maybe different or a new approach is needed?
Do you have support?

I know sometimes life is just not easy at all, the worst is having to hang in there feeling helpless and not knowing how to resolve an issue.

I can so sympathise with you. I too was feeling worn out . I was lucky in a way because I found out the other meds I take affected my thyroid and since stopping these this has righted itself. BUT I was scared that it was my diabetes and wanted to take better control and stop kidding myself that chocolate was ok.I did not want to start taking insulin. I joined a slimming club and lost weight initially and then started putting it back on. Too much fruit! I now test mself at mealtimes and 2 hours afterwards. Costs me a fortune because the surgery won't prescribe strips. Says a healthy diet is fine. How else can we see what the food we eat does to our levels. I still get 11+ on occasion. My friend lives further away and goes to a different surgery and they quite happily prescribe strips.
Have you tried writing a letter to the chief executive via the patients support group of your hospital and asking for an earlier appointment. It's the Summer so many consultants are on school holidays with their children so September may still be the earliest app. you will get. I did this once when I develped atrial fibrillation and it worked for me so good luck.
 
Have you been tested for Vitamin D deficiency, Anaemia or Vitamin B12 deficiency? All these things can make you feel worn out. I am also convinced that the better your Vitamin D levels are, the lower your BS levels are.

At last I seem to have some good news!! I was due for the Specialist Diabetic Clinic on 28th September and a call from my GP to bring it forward seemed to fall on deaf ears.

But.....I received a phone call yesterday and I have an appointment for tomorrow morning!!! :-D So at least I can get on the road to trying to sort out my high BG.

I am not expecting micracles immediately, and if I have to go on insulin eventually then so be it..I just want it sorted so I can start feeling a lot less tired and washed out. I will let you know what their initial thoughts/treatment is.

Good to hear that your appointment has been put forward.

Let us know the outcome and hope that you get some good advice.
 
Well, I am back from the Specialist Diabetic Clinic. The result being that I have to go on Insulin. She hopes that I can start next week. First I have to take extra glucose readings at lunchtime, even though I do not eat lunch, and as many bedtime reading, if I can stay awake as normally I am so tired after dinner it is straight to bed even before my grandchildren :-)
When she has decided the frequency, type of insulin etc she will then visit me at home and go through everything then.
Hopefully I will be feeling better sooner rather than later. I do not know whether there is adjustments to type of insulin and unit changes etc but will have to wait and see.
I should say that the lunchtime readings are so she can decide on either one or two injections a day. She is hoping to start on just one a day.

My specialist diabetic nurse is starting me on 6 units of lantus daily...as soon as I can pick up the prescription and as soon as she can visit (some time this week) as well as my 1gm of Metformin twice daily and 160mg of gliclazide. To placate my GP (because he only lets me have 50 test strips a month) she said I can test once daily! I just hope that is enough to work out whether my insulin dose is correct or needs increasing over time. Still I hope that shortly I will start to feel better. ;-)

Why not ask your DSN to write to your gp and ask for your prescription to be increased to 100 strips a month due to moving onto insulin, no harm in trying and you may want to ring the surgery yourself and explain that you need to test more now due to your change in treatment.

Phoned up and spoke to the GP on duty and got another 50 strips...the good news is that he has now put them on my repeat...so until I speak to my own GP I can at least order 50 as and when :-D
