Just wondering what is going on.
About four weeks ago I started having a squirt of faux maple syrup in a treat I have most nights. Despite monitoring every morsel I eat, I never went, or go, over 20g carbs a day, I'm quite obsessive at watching what I eat. So I was rather concerned that my weight loss had stopped, and had in fact gone backwards! Trying to figure out what's going on, I thought I'd stop the faux maple syrup. Four days on from stopping I've dropped 1.25kg - now that's fast for me. In fact I've probably caught up with the previous three weeks.
Just discovered that the sweetener in the faux maple syrup is Sucralose. Googling Sucralose it appears there's no definitive conclusion on whether it's good or bad for us. Though some articles say Sucralose can mess with glucose and insulin levels. I know my 'experiment' isn't scientific, but I'm minded there's a real correlation here. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
I've tried using Erythritol, but that seems to give me a migrainey headache.
The answer I know is go without any sweeteners, but just sometimes it would be nice. Perhaps the answer is a sort of tradeoff with carbs by using a small amount of mashed sweet fruit, at least I don't think they are a chemical.
BTW I monitor my BG level by finger prick several times a day, only once in a couple of months has it gone above 7.5.
