So I have a stinking cold and feel awful. Just took a Sudafed type tablet and then afterwards saw that the packet said "DO NOT TAKE IF YOU HAVE DIABETES"....

Assume it's not going to cause me major damage but does anyone know why it is a contraindication? Can't see much info from a quick Google...

Sudafed has been known to raise Blood Glucose Levels in some diabetics.

I've had sudafed quite a few times and it's had no effect on my diabetes. It definitely raises my blood pressure though. I assumed the diabetes warning was simply because it hasn't been properly tested on people with diabetes. It's a pity if it effects your BG numbers. I think there's a nasal spray version but that only works short-term I seem to remember. By the way, Boots do their own cheaper versions.

I think it's something to do with anti inflammatories / decongestant and long term effect on kidneys. But I have no idea if or where I read that or just made it up???

Thanks all. No effect on my BG yet (and it's been about 3 hours).
