Sudden change of prescribed testing strips

Hi all,

Has anyone ever had a letter through informing them their prescribed testing strips are being changed? I am a T1D on a pump and use Contour testing strips as my blood machine connects to the pump and all the info is downloaded at my diabetes clinic. I have today had a letter through informing a change over to the TEE2 meter and strips, but this strips away functionality with the pump, and my own CCG guidelines state to exclude the switch from anyone on the pump- has anybody any advice on this?

Tagging in @Mel dCP as a pump user, and I think @helensaramay. I'm MDI so have no experience of pumping but I had that sort of a letter and had to switch meters. The strips are cheaper apparently and so I can understand their thinking.

Could you contact your DSN at the hospital and explain. They'll have had this situation for other pumpers and perhaps exceptions are made for those on pumps? At the same time, contact your GP and explain. Also say that you've contacted the Diabetes Team at the hospital to ask advice and ask that the GP to defer implementing any change in your case until you've heard from the hospital.

Hi Josh,

Please speak to your DSN, this can be resolved, I think it's a standardised letter sent to all insulin dependent diabetics, however your DSN would need to contact the surgery to confirm that this is part of your required care for them to ensure it remains on your prescription, let us know how you get on ?
