My first post of the new year so Happy New Year to you all.

A quick question.
I've been having issues with my levemir over the last few months (I posted about it a while ago). But now I've kind of sorted that out by taking a shot of noavrapid to cover the shortfall I have suddenly had to start taking a lot more insulin with my food. My ratios have changed from 1:5 in the morning to 1:1.5 and from 1:12 to about 1:7 during the day.

Is it possible that I'm just not using my levemir properly at all and would ths just kind of happen after nearly 2 years after diagnosis. I'm sure I came out of my honeymoon period well over a year ago where my ratios doubled and up until recently they have been totally stable.

I've also ahd a few epsiodes recently where Ive had false hypos. As in I felt really like having a hypo but my sugras have been about 8. It feels very weird like my levels are radily changing but they are going up and not down.

All a bit odd and I'm finding it really really hrad work to keep my levels at nomal ranges at the moment.

Any thoughts
thanks
Andrea

p.s have tried new pens and have even gone and got a new batch of pens from chemist which i will try today.
p.p.s I will get round to swapping my avatar to something a bit mroe appropriate

it is possible that you are experiencing another "honeymoon end". A significant proportion of T1 diabetics still produce insulin years after diagnosis, and if you are one of these, you may have been working with significantly reduced insulin production which has just changed again.

I would recommend seeing your diabetes care team and explaining what has happened to see if they are able to assist.

You may want to try basal testing as well, to determine whether your Levemir is at the right level and working as it should.

Hi, I dont know if is helpful. But in my case, last year I saw a bigger increase in my NovoRapid requirements ie:- If I had 40 carbs I would have to take 6 or 7 units.
I have Coeliac disease, but maybe a long time before diagnosis , I had maybe 1 unit for breakfast, niormal 1 unit to 10 carbs for lunch, but dinner was 3/4 's of the full amount ( 60 carbs and only 4 units) bedtime Levemir was 16, then 14, last year 12, and now 11, but NovoRapid has really increased..
I have been thinking on the lines of Insulin resistance ? or last year many upsets, stress, worry and health problems ? ha that affected me ? like you I am a little confused at times.
I have never eaten snacks in between meals and my weight is about 120 lbs. I cant eat foods without taking Insulin and I've always been like that.
Maybe we could find out together ? Good luck
Take care RRB

Thanks for the replies. Weight is stable and have done a couple of basal tests and in between eating is ok.
I don't feel particularly more stressed and can't think if anything that's different.
I know it's just a number but 1 unit per 1.-1.5 g carb in the morning seems a lot

I have a consultant appt next month so will muddle on and talk it over with him. Will let you know how I get on RRB.
