Suddenly developed tingling feet

I was diagnosed type 2 in December (but suspect I had this for a while as my numbers were very high). The past two days I've had tingling/burning sensations in my feet- sometimes moving up to my calves.

Is this likely to be neuropathy? Is there anything else I can do other than try and manage blood sugar? According to my meter my average levels over the past 2 weeks are 7.7 - which is a big improvement on my diagnosis levels, so wonder why this has suddenly come on.

Any advice?

Bullies.
If you think you are exhibiting signs of diabetic neuropathy you should discuss this with your GP. Getting your blood sugars down to non-diabetic numbers would be a good idea to help in that situation. How is your diabetes being treated? What is your diet like?

Hey there,

I suffer from autonomic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy and both have similar symptoms.

I'm on pregablin 100mg twice a day prescribed by my doctor. It's been a great help getting the symptoms under control.

It might be worth discussing with your specialist about it, they may prescribe something.

Nerve pain isn't well understood by GPs but it's fairly well known by the diabetic community.

Hi. Thanks for replying. I am not on any medication and am eating very low carb (less than 30g a day). Tingling has been much less noticeable the past two or three days. I have a GP appointment coming up so can discuss then.

Hi @Endofthesky thanks for replying. I don't have a specialist- just the GP for now. She has referred me to a Desmond course but no information provided to date and no eye or other checks set up. Now that I have more knowledge gathered from this site, I'll be asking lots more questions at my upcoming appointment with her.

Thanks @landofoz - spoke to my GP about it yesterday and she didn't seem too concerned at this point as it's intermittent, but will definitely keep an eye on it.

I had the same thing, well, similar, since I was diagnosed five years ago. Not painful just tingling, numbness in my left foot.

Yes, ONLY my left foot. A curious phenomenon since my reading demonstrated the affliction is usually a symmetrical one - meaning it equally affects both feet.

Anyway, I finally got my hbA1C below 7% last November and realised soon afterwards that sensation in my left foot was, once again, normal. So-ooo, good things can happen. Fingers crossed!

Thanks @Belzedar - hope that will be the case for me. It's more annoying than anything else at the moment, not painful.

Can you tell me how much ALA you take daily . I have tingling and burning in my feet, take gabapentin daily which doesn't seem to help and would like to try this but reading up on it the doses range from 100-800 mg daily. Any advice would be appreciated

I would try 600mg a day, the studies conducted seem to suggest that.
