Sugar in tea and coffee

TGC
T2 form 2001; HbA1C 49; On Metformin & Sitagliptin; age:67 years
I look at 24 hour carb intake & calorie intake than just one item. Then I look for each item Glycaemic index (how quickly and how high blood sugar goes up) and Glycaemic load (how much carb in it). Each spoon of sugar (I believe) has 4 Grams of Carb and so 4x4= 16 calories.
I cut down from 6 to 8 coffees a day to 4 each with 2 spoons of sugar. Also I drink coffee "in between" not following meal to avoid intake of large amount of carb. in one go.
I would change that name if I was you.

May I ask about black coffee without sugar? Everything I've read is somewhat unclear (even in diabetes.co.uk).
I'm fine with the idea of having to give up all the food I loved, but coffee has always been my dearest thing. I drink quite a lot (4 to 6 cups a day). I think I don't think I'm able to give up smoking plus bread plus coffee all at once. Any ideas here? Is coffee bad for diabetes?
If you give up smoking and bread, that is fine, don't worry about coffee.

I use to have two sugars in my coffee and have as bout eight cups a day but since being diabetic I switched to sweetners, but after abit I seemed to go off coffee because it was tasteing vile without the suger and lately drink more tea with one sweetner in it and the only way I can drink coffee is with one sweetner and half a spoon of sugar but I'll keep on trying

Decided to get my act together regarding my weight when I was 19, I was 15 stone (am 6 foot all) used to have around 8 teas and coffees a day, each with 2 sugars, I cut down to 1, then to just a sweetener and then down to none at all. I worked really hard at the gym and ate very healthily and lost 3 stone in 3 months, then a further 1 and 1/2 stone over next 3-by which time I was underweight and put a bit back on. Was only diagnosed with Type 1 last year and am now 11 stone (still lower than I should be)

but the point is I lost weight as I was cutting out 16 teaspoons of sugar a day, this was 9 years before I was diagnosed with diabetes, I know its difficult but just do it gradually, I am now at the stage where I cannot drink a cup of tea/coffee at work if my colleague makes his drink first (with sugar) as I can taste it and it makes me feel ill

How can you taste the sugar from his drink?
