Morning gang. Yesterday my morning reading was 7.3 before breakfast, Which consisted of one poached egg, two irish sausages , and four rashers of bacon. This was at 08.30 after which i went to watch my son play football, Upon my return at 13.00 hrs my blood sugar was 10.9 !!
Can anyone give me an explanation for this ??

Were the sausages high meat content (97/98%) or ones with higher carb content perhaps?

Looks like only 45% meat content

There is the culprit I'm afraid. 11.8g per 100 is high Asda and Tesco both do own brand 98% meat sausages and I often have two plus 2 poached or fried eggs for lunch/,dinner and my BG levels are always less after 2hrs than the pre- meal levels. I know that we can all be different in how our bloods react to food but you could give it a try? The stress of watching the football match maybe added to the high BG :)

Oh dear! Look at all that rubbish in the ingredients. The major supermarkets sell 90 odd% meat sausages and they taste so much better, too. I like Black Farmers, but Tesco and Sainsbury do their own.

so looks like the sausages were ~10g carbs then, generally 10g of carbs would increase BS level by 2 or 3 mmol (for a T1 with no insulin), add in possible protein/fat affect (any tea or coffee involved?) this could be the cause of the rise? if you had started off at 5 point something then it wouldn't have appeared as bad though!

I love a good snosage. But you have to buy either really cheap, so that it's mostly breadcrumb and no actual meat..lol..or super expensive where it's like 100% pork.

Anything in between is gristle city..:***:

There is no middle ground for the beloved snosage.

Just an aside - is it possible to be Type 1 not be on insulin?

I find stress is one of the biggest factors for raising my BG s and from reading around the forum it does seem to affect lots of us.
I mentioned Tesco and Asda sausages becauuse they are my favourites and cheaper than Brands like Heck etc and I've just remembered that Aldis and Lidls have high meat content sausages too.

Don't agree mist see above :)

Dextrose is also a sugar.
Wow. Not much meat in there !!!
As you said, lesson learned. I'm sure you can find better quality and it will be better for your body as well!!
1 carb raises me about 7 points. That's how I judge my insulin. 2 of those sausage would have required far larger doses than I take for a regular meal.
