Sugar spike

Hi. Thank you everyone for you're kind posts. @Cocosilk I'll tell you the foods I tend to eat.

Breakfast: porridge (plain without sugar)

Lunch: egg mayo or chicken sandwich

Dinner: chicken, brocoli and parsnip/beetroot chips. Sometimes pasta with mince

This, of course, is the foods I'm now eating. Before I found out about my HBA1 test thing I was eating takeaways, chocolate, tea with 2 sugar etc

I ate porridge almost every day for years and years. Since testing my blood sugar though, I realise it's one that gives me spikes so now breakfast for me every morning is usually eggs. Sometimes with bacon or avocado. I love eggs though so I don't miss the porridge so much anymore. And eggs can be prepared faster too!

The bread part of the sandwich could be spiking you. Not sure if you are adventurous in the kitchen but if you bake, or even don't mind using a frying pan, you can make a fairly tasty "bread" on a frying pan using almond meal, eggs and salt. Fry it in the fat left over from the bacon to make it even tastier. Only word of warning with nut breads is they are much heavier than grain breads so it's easy to overeat on them.

Chicken and brocolli should be okay- there are probably a few carbs in brocolli but beetroot is much more likely to cause a spike so watch the chips.
Pasta, well, that's like bread and will give you a spike. Mince is no problem though. Some like to replace pasta with zucchini by grating the zucchini into strips and putting them into boiling water for a minute or so just to make them tender. You can have a reasonable bowl of zucchini with your usual tomato/mince/spaghetti sauce without the actual pasta and it's fairly safe. Just watch for added sugar in store bought tomato pasta sauces.
