There is no sugar in a jacket potato, but with a 450g potato there are 26g of carbs, that is more than I eat in a day. If you want to try a jacket potato, I suggest a much smaller one and test after one hour, then two. Potato's are usually things a diabetic would avoid like the plague, especially old ones.

sorry, what i meant is i read that the amount of carbs in a 1lb jacket potatoe =2lb of sugar :? i alway's get tounge tied on a computor

Sorry,l don't think that's right Jo. Potatos are about 16 grams carbs per 100, so a 450 gram spud would be about 72 grams carbs.
Still nowhere near the same as 2lb sugar! That's about 900 grams carbs!!
But to re-inforce the point, jacket potato is also really high on the glycaemic index so personally I wouldn't go near one. Well, only to serve it to someone else!

Mr Hyde
Half of each Sucrose molecule is Fructose and doesn't affect blood sugar [it does other nasty things though! ]
And 100% of each starch molecule is Glucose, which does raise blood sugar.
Thus you could say that twice the carb from a baked potato becomes blood sugar, compared with the same weight of table sugar.
So your potato story has some validity

I took my figure from my usual carb site, but as I have not been near a spud in months, took the numbers as was. So I could be wrong, :shh: That will teach me to trust web sites for items I have no clue about. I always cross check my own food, but there again, that's going into me, and I can't afford to get it wrong.

I still wouldn't go near a spud of any size or age
