Sugars very high after eating healthy, no alcohol and gym

Hi all,

Wonder if anybody knows ....

I'm a 35 year old male and had diabetes for 8 years, in that time I have been on and off going to the gym and kinda watching what I ate. I did every now and then go on a beer which would affect my sugar levels for days after.

More recently I have stopped drinking alcohol for 5 weeks and been eating really clean and minimising carbs. I have also been doing the gym and running.

My sugars now are worse than ever and consistently sitting around 11-16 mmol. Does anybody know what could be causing this ? I'm also taking treble the amount of insulin (humalog) that I usually take and still this cannot control it. Last night I did have a hypo but there is just no pattern to it.

Thanks in advance

Brad

Anaerobic exercise can raise your blood sugars. Do you know how your blood sugars are if you DON'T exercise for three or four days? If your blood sugars are OK when you are sitting around contemplating life in Buddha-like immobility, so you know that as a "baseline", you can then start calculating how to alter your carb intake and insulin for different types of exercise. If your non-exercising blood sugars are fine, then you can head over to the Sports and Exercise threads on here for detailed advice on how to manage your new gym routine.

Thanks Ruth, I will try rest till next week see how my sugars are. It's very frustrating.

Sometimes frustrating is the very definition of diabetes! But stick with it because sport is a major mood booster, and it helps to control your diabetes and reverse complications even. So don't change your plan!
