Supermarket Ready Meals

Has anyone tried any Supermarket ready meals, or any that they can recommend which don't cause blood sugar levels to go high?

I desperately wanted something with some flavour so I bought the Tesco Finest Paella. I expected to be writing an entry in the Guilty Pleasures thread but ended being surprised by my levels - before I was 4.8 and 2 hours after I was at 6.7. I expected it to be a lot higher because of the rice.

Would be interested in what others have tried.

Thanks
Martin

Processed foods and refined carbohydrates!
This product is around 11% rice (65g) so I guess thats why it didnt have too much of an effect on BS. That and the fat/oil and vinegar.
A lot of the supermarket ready meals seem to be bulked up with a load of starchy carbs to keep the cost down but that one might be worth trying!

Hi Martin,

Supermarket Ready Meals are just another convenience food, usually containing generous levels of salt, sugar and fat. I personally wouldn't touch them, prefer to cook my meals from scratch, but except that this isn't always convenient for some people.

The paella dish you bought didn't seem to raise your bg much, so I suppose it is just trial and error with these meals, they certainly seem to be very popular nowadays, although a little pricey!

I too don't use them if can be avoided but there are certain times and events in my life where I need something I can bung in an oven and forget about for 25 minutes then scop it on a plate and throw it down my neck!

I would be orbit with the paella and I am sooo jealous  - I look at it each time I am in Tescos and dream of the day I could have eaten it :(

one of the things from the finest range I am ok with is the lamb mussaka - about 38g carb per port I think - I have it with salad leaves with balsamic vinegar and my bg copes ok - maybe the vinegar helps

There is a chicken chow mein in M&S that I have had twice and that was ok too - but like I say I only have them very occasionally during emergencies - but I appreciate not everyone likes to or can indeed cook and everyone needs some conveience sometime :)
