Hi there!

Im a 20 year old male, having been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since the age of 6. Up till recently I have had very poor control of my diabetes, mainly due to my upbringing and me wanting to ignore the fact I had this illness.

Anyway within the last month ive decided to get my act together and my control is slowly getting better, but still far off being good, but ill get there. But as a 20 year old male I am sexually active, and have recently noticed problems down stairs, which as you can imagine is a huge scare for me at this age. I was aware that ED is associated with diabetes but i had not expexted to experience it intill my elder years, though I assume my very poor controll over the years is at fault for this.

Apologies for the long back story, but could anyone advice me on any supplements I could take? Not only to help me with the problems down stairs, but also just jn general to help with my diabetes. I have reserched vitamins such as vit D and vit B3 but I can never fully trust internet sources.

Your advice would be much appreciated, sorry for the long read!

get your sugar down and you will find the odds are it'll be ok and ED is definitely a way to motivate you to look after yourself.
what are your BG levels, drugs and doses? there are some cluey T1's here that can help you sort it.

Your better discussing your problems with your gp/consultant than buying over-expensive vitamins that might never work, certainly getting your bg under control will help but you still might need some help ..........so do ask for help from your HCP's.

Sorry I should have been a bit more discriptive, I fully undertsand that controlling my BG levels is the best approach here and will continue to work to do that, Im not looking for a quick fix through some supplement, just rather if someone had an experience with a supplement that helped to assist eith diabetes in general and any problems with ED. I dont have ED outright, just sometimes i have difficulties, but that is something I will discuss with my GP. Thanks for the responses

Dr Bernstein's book has a lot of information about useful supplements for T1s and T2s. I used to take a gobful every day. Cost me £20 a week. I couldn't say if they did anything other than give me stomach ache.

I guess taking sups would also go along with tighter BG control and better diet.
the observation of sups isn't necessarily causation, I think I would want to see the blind study to support it
