Hi Folks,

I'm newly diagnosed with Type 2, and so far am frustrated that UK Medical Practitioners say ok to Carbs....and I'm still awaiting my diet chat with my local pratice, which I'm sure will advocate eating carbs...

I know this is not the place to debate the validity of low carb diets....and at this point in time am for a low carb diet, based on some short term testing of my BS with and without Carbs....and what I've read so far (Bernstein).....I get that all carbs are chains of sugar molecules.....ect.

So my question is....should I be taking any supplements given I'm cutting fruit, carbs and some fats? If so what is safe and sensible to take?

I take the usual - vits A, B, D, K - get my vitamin C from oranges rather than tablet form... although that's because I want to make sure I get all the vitamins and supplements x

If you're eating a good variety of fresh vegetables, meats, fish etc, you shouldn't really need a supplement.

I take magnesium, Vit D3, and flax seed oil. Every now and again I'll take a month's course of a multi-vitamin and mineral, just to be sure.

Don't forget we need some fats eg to metabolise Vit D. Also dairy has calcium, but you can get that from (eg) broccoli and other veg, as long as you eat enough.

My diet (Viv's Modified Atkins Diet) is on the Low-crab Forum. Worth a look, even if you don't want to go so low carb.
